I've tried to teach him tricks (Sahara does tricks), but if I try to hand him food he hits my hand extremely hard. I don't now why he hates everything good. He likes food if it is thrown to him.

I'd try clicker training with a target wand and tossing him the food.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Anybody know what to do to stop a cat from scratching furniture? We have leather furniture and we can't declaw him.
I'm not really on anymore. I've found a better roleplaying site. I will still be on occasionally to reply to roleplays and adopt pets. If the owners of a roleplay want to free my spot up for another, you can go ahead and kick me. Just send me a pm telling me that.

For us, we gave them something else to relieve their claws on. Clipping them or capping them can cause frustration and discomfort. Now, capping can do the job, but for some people, capping isn't the right way to go. I'm sure someone will offer it up.. but I honestly dislike the idea.

There are many options. Capping, clipping, declawing, a scratch-board, behavior training...etc.

In the end, cats scratch things like bark to trim them down. This habitual activity gets cut off sometimes with indoor cats and they need a substitute.

You can ask anyone on here about a suggestion listed. It's up to you what you do with your cat. You can look up stuff on the internet even, if you don't like any we give you.

Thank you. I've tried quite a few things, like orange peels, tape, but he still does it. He is a mostly outside cat, so he has time to wear his claws down.

Then your cat is out of line. Try making a 'tsk' sound when he does it. It's what moved out outdoor cat's scratching from indoor furniture, to outdoor trees. It startles them, and if they continue, despite you, put them outside. They should get the idea that that behavior should be outside.

This might not work, so a scratch board might help if needed...our cats don't get scratch boards, so yeah. XD

Whatever works, and oyu feel is right, do it.

Have a nice day!

What does he have inside to scratch on? c: As well as removing claw sheaths, one of the main reasons cats scratch is to mark their territory (both visual and scent from the glands in their paws) and as communication (and for a good stretch :D). Which is why declawed cats still show the same behaviour.
Make sure he has a few different kind of scratching things as not all cats like the same stuff. Cardboard, sisal rope, carpet or maybe even wood, horizontal and vertical and make sure anything upright is tall enough for him to stretch all the way out and sturdy enough to not fall over or wobble.
Have any scratching posts near the things he likes to scratch and gradually move them to a better location once he's using them. If your cat reacts to catnip then you could try spraing some on. Cover anything he likes to scratch but isn't allowed to with something unpleasant like foil, sticky tape or something. Give him something he really likes (treats, cuddles, toys etc) when he uses the scratching post like a good kitty c:

Even with thins to scratch on, Sahara has ripped wallpaper off multiple walls and ruined my grandmother's leather stool.

My cats must be weird xD They don't scratch on anything, never have, all they've really done that includes their claws is kneed the carpet, and Angel would kneed her paws on my blanket, too |D

That trait also passed onto most of her kittens, they never climbed up curtains or wrecked the couches. But I guess thats because we always kept them entertained with toys.

I also might be getting a new cat soon c: Depends if my parents let me - we'd probably be taking one of the kittens my pops cat had (we gave him the mother cat, btw, after his first cat (one of Angels kittens) got hit by a car)

The mother cat has five kittens at the moment, two ginger tabbies, two brown tabbies and then a really dark brown tabby (almost looks black). I'm surprised she had that many, its her first litter and she isn't even a year and a half yet.

But then there is also a person who lives down the road - lets her cats run feral, lots of female cats and in my street, we have three or four male cats roaming around, so the females also seem to get pregnant and have kittens, its really sad too - since she doesn't even look after the cats, she just leaves them outside.

I was talking to my mum about trying to calmly catch some of the cats, only a few at the time (we've done it before, don't worry) and bathe them/get them checked for sickness ect, before sending them off and getting them re-homed.

But I don't think my dad would like that idea, he hates cats, sadly.
