Oooh, I have a story from when I rode Cowboy!
Once I was going over 18 inch cross-rails, and on the first one Cowboy jumped BIG. He over-jumps a lot, and most of the time I'm ready for it, but this time I wasn't. He bumped me out of the saddle and I lost my stirrups. I was hanging on his side, and I was about to turn him away from the second jump, but I didn't because I knew that my instructor wouldn't like it. So, I grabbed his mane and hung onto him. Thankfully, he knew I was about to fall off and he didn't over jump it.
After the jump I slowed him down to a walk and pulled myself back into the saddle. It was funny, though. I mean, my left leg was swung over his back, and my right one was dangling. I was shorter then, and Cowboy was about 15.2, so my foot didn't touch the ground. But if I was on Winnie and that happened... I would of fallen off. Thank goodness Cowboy had a bit longer mane then - if he hadn't had a mane I would of toppled off.
Then, of course, my instructor told me that she had oiled the stirrups before my lesson. -.-
