No they didn't. its pretty commonplace for them to fake animal deaths in stuff to make it look like whatever was being killed.
There are crazy strict laws that ensure people arent killing animals for tv stuff.

Sadly I used to believe the same thing, especially because they put "No animals were harmed during the making of this movie" at the end. As long as the animal is not hurt on screen, they can put that.
There's an entire article about it, I'd post it here but it is a bit gruesome for a childrens website. They killed the snake, and even gave the rattle to one of the actors as a gag gift, they said so in an interview.

^that.

Also the "No animals were harmed" thing is actually completely voluntary and doing stuff like that is not actually illegal, you just don't get the "no animals were harmed" part of your credits.

Still didn't kill it.
HSUS is on scene every time they use live animals. (As awful as HSUS is in general..)

I'm still 99% sure its incredibly illegal to harm animals for television though. (there may be exceptions for non entertainment shows idk)

Alright, I am going to post the article because you are so inclined to believe that they would never kill an animal for tv.
(Just so you know, they gave the rattle to one of the actors. So yes, they did kill it)

I just read a few other articles saying he didn't kill it. I'm sure that article you showed has real events, but I don't think any animals were harmed in the Walking Dead. And the rattle is just left from times they shed. Everytime they shed they leave a peice to use for the rattle. Rattlers lose their rattles sometimes. Maybe there was a way to take it off without harming the snake?
Oh well, I don't really know what to believe.

Edit - This is what a friend of mine said...

I'm a huge Walking Dead fan, and that rattlesnake thing isn't actually true. :p During the Talking Dead (the talk show about the Walking Dead), Norman Reedus (Daryl, the person who killed the rattlesnake), explained that no rattlesnake was killed, and the "snake" he was eating was actually eel. They've had some rumors before, but they have the disclaimer at the end of each episode verifying that no animals were harmed in the making. c: If they were lying about that, they'd have already had legal trouble by now. In another episode, pigs were killed, but during the Talking Dead, the entire process was explained. They switched out the real pigs with fake pigs and used fake blood and all that jazz.

shes exactly 80 inches now :3c

also if you guys want, I can get exact lengths of your snakes. Just post a picture that shows their whole body on a level surface from above, with something next to them and on the same level that you have the exact length of.
