What's the deal with raising mice? They stink. -_-

I prefer f/t though. But my girl is used to live, so she's making the switch. She's a good eater, and hasn't had any problems switching.
And mites are a headache with her too, that happened awhile ago though. Got mite-off now.
Betadine, and water are a perfect combination to get rid of them. That's all I had to get rid of mites. And they are gone now :D

*edit* Wait is what I just said medical advice? If it is PLEASE tell me, so I can delete it!

Yeah, IME raising feeder rodents yourself isn't worth it. I thought about it before, and then realized I can just buy them online for probably less than it would cost me to raise them at home. So less expensive and I don't have to deal with the things that come along with taking care of large rodent colonies.

Start up cost is high, but the rest of the costs actually aren't bad and might even be cheaper if you count shipping in online costs. I had my own feeder colony of rats for a short time and am planning on having a mouse colony when I'm first able to. I also enjoy the company of rodents as pets, though, so I don't mind the smell or extra care.

When you have happy rodents, you have efficient producers. A single rat gave me 13 babies (and her cagemate gave me 12) on our first go, and our second attempt gave us nearly 20 from one of the girls (the other, the pregnancy didn't take). The babies were big enough for Q to eat in about 2 or 3 months. Rats are true omnivores, so when supplementing them with scraps from our foods that we eat (rat-approved foods, mind) and a high quality rat block, it wasn't very hard on our wallets to keep them at all once we had everything for them.

I had to sell my colony when I moved again, as the place I moved into won't let me keep rats, and I'm missing my $10/month bag-of-rat-food cost compared to shelling out so much money for shipping every couple of months.

Thank you! cx
I think they look much prettier young but the adult ones look like they got a rainbow on them from the light, like a rainbow boa.
