What color are there legs? If green, Easter egger. Big dif between Americana and EE, mainly Americanas can only be acquired from breeders. (Least you didn't call them aracaunas, a lot of people do and aracaunas are not at all similar to 90% of chicken breeds just due to their beard)
They look like hens for their age. If they devolep pointy saddle or ribbon-y feathers then most likely Roos, but sometimes hen EEs will look like a roo then start laying.
If any brown eggs end up then they are 100% EEs
Very pretty EEs though <3

As for care, just the biggest thing is bedding. Try to just use straw or wood chips, but just the wood shavings, not pine or oak though (one of those). Itll kill them.
For nest boxes old milk crates will work or you can build them
They should lay in about 10-8 weeks or so

Best of luck. Don't be afraid to ask any questions!

they have tan/pink legs, no green. the guy said Americana, and that they lay green, blue and pink eggs. I thought EEs were the same thing, but I guess not. he said nothing about EEs, that was just my assuming =P

this guy did breed them but as stated, a mink got into his coops and killed most of the adults. he had these guys and about 5 others separated from the adults so they survived. so im going to assume just straight Americana.

my mom is getting some NH Reds and golden comets I think she said. they should be here end of the week. they are just little chicks though so that should be real fun.

heres to hoping they are all hens! one rooster would be fine, but really hoping there are at least 2 hens

my fiancé is going to build the coop. hes been wanting to build something since we got the house. it was going to be the dog house, but we didn't really have time to build one before bringing over the pups, so hes actually quite excited to build this coop, and I know he will do it top notch :D

thanks for the help guys! im sure ill be back again soon!

So in one corner of our yard we have a burn barrel. I was lighting some cardboard (some coated in plastic labels and tape) and it gave off a thick cloud of white smoke. We only burn immediately after rain, so the smoke hangs around to the ground for some time. My question is: Is this a great danger to chickens? I know they have highly sensitive respiratory systems. There wouldn't be copious amounts of smoke pouring into their yard often, but is a single exposure enough to harm them? We don't burn that often, maybe once every few months.

AUSTRALIA IS FINALLY ALLOWING THE IMPORTATION OF CHICKENS AAAAAAA
this has been in the works for a decade omg

and they're imporTING VORWERKS SCREAMS
THERE ARE GOING TO BE SO MANY NEW BREEDS IN THE COUNTRY AAAAAAAAAAAA
i mean it's still going to be like a decade before i can afford a vorwerk since it's costing like $2000 a parcel (each parcel is 40 eggs) but i DON'T CARE VORWERKS WILL BE IN THE COUNTRY
LAKENVELDERS WILL BE IN THE COUNTRY
JERESY GIANTS WILL BE IN THE COUNTRY
APPENZELLERS WILL BE IN THE COUNTRY
THERE ARE GOING TO BE SO MANY NEW COLOURS AND BREEDS I AM GOING TO DIE

seriously the country has been closed to new imports (outside commercial hatcheries) for like 60 years so lots of the rare breeds are REALLY REALLY inbred so this will be a super good thing! Hopefully all our current breeds can improve as well now that there will be new blood around!

i need to win the lottery pronto so I can get into the next round of imports uwu
i just really hope this becomes A Permanent Thing so in like 5-10 years when I've got my own house and can have chickens again I can order a parcel and bring in a new breed or colour or something ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

broody

Postby kopus » Sat Jun 08, 2013 3:08 am

I have some broody girls. They are both sitting on the same nest (together) and sharing one small egg together. They are both my little silkie bantams, so ... ooh .... It's their first time, and they'll be a year old in July.

HolyGrain; he is a very, very pretty Rooster!!!!

I do plan to get some silkie chickens, but I may end up having to wait a few years before I can achieve that XD. But look at them. Who wouldn't want this running around their yard? :D

that's exactly what they look like too. Trust me, it's not a mistake to get them. They are the best pets and chickens. I would never regret getting mine. xD This was a while back, and they have more poofy feathers and such, but this is when I colored them once! xD The pink was is ... well, 'Scott'. I named her Scott because at the time I thought it was a Rooster and when I discovered she was a hen, the name just stuck with her. Although, they are pure white now with no color and so cute!

We have a really pretty black silkie rooster that takes care off the young chicks when they are old enough to go outside. He acts just like a hen!
