:3 My auraucana mixed hen just hatched out 6 babies. I checked the other eggs, smashed the infertile ones, and put the other two in the incubator. I just woke up to two little baby chicks!!! :333

I also have button quail. Anyone else have buttons?

Haha, waking up to chicks is the best! It's like christmas xD
I really want to get quail, but sadly there's just not the time or enclosures for them yet :c Are they very hard to keep?

easier and quieter than chickens. button quail need to be kept indoors in fish tanks. they're teeeny tiny and shouldnt be kept outdoors. One quail per square foot and they form monogamous pairs. so it's best to keep two in a 20gal with a soft cover. they can spook and injure themselves when they fly up to a hard lid. I drape my tank with a scarf. They're about the size of a sparrow.

Coturnix quail are more hardy and can live outdoors in an enclosure. still 1square foot per bird. But they can be kept in colonies. They're bigger and easier to take care of. They're good for meat and eggs. they're about the size of a bantam chicken. I recommend them.

BUTTON QUAIL ARE THE CUUUTEST THOUGH

Down to 19 babies with the bantam Cochin and Phoenix :( We don't know what happened to it. The standard Cochin has 6 RIR chicks. Here's a pic of one.

{Hello! I love this topic so much! I breed ducks and I got two hatched a couple weeks ago and I had two hatch yesterday. I have a few more starting to hatch in the incubator, so I am really excited!

{Here is my week old ducklings. The one with no black on its head is Dukie Momo and the one with the black spot is Robin Hood. (I'll try to get pictures of my newest ducklings soon)

hello everyone! brand new here.

my mom ordered some chicks last month from a farm store here and has been trying to convince my fiancé and I to get some chickens too. she managed to, but we still needed to get a coop built and get supplies.

we went up to Tractor Supply today since they were having an event (with puppies, which we are looking for). while we are there, my mom drags us over to this one stand and points out some young chickens hes selling. I guess a Mink got into his coops and killed a bunch of his chickens so he was selling some of the younger ones until he can rebuild the coop. my mom bought us 3 chickens to get started. they are Americuanas and are 10 to 12 weeks old. we are using a dog kennel right now and my fiancé is going to build a coop after payday. im really excited! ive never had chickens before but my mom has done a ton of research so im glad she is helping me out on this one. we are suppose to be taking care of her peeps next week when they arrive (because she works a lot but there is almost always someone home here) so she is giving me lots of pointers.

here is a photo of them when I first brought them home

go easy on me guys, im not a kid so don't treat me like one (this happens a lot I see - don't know about here but in forums on specific topics people get edgy...), however I am MORE than happy to take *suggestions* on care and things, especially about Americuanas in general. I know they are referred to as easter eggers and lay different color eggs, which is really neat. I don't know the genders, but my luck they are all roosters :( ill be getting more shortly, I want a total of 6 hens and 1 rooster. I think the state next door does chicken swaps so I can check that out if I get extra roosters.

anyways, any info is helpful, but keep things nice and informative to an adult level ;)

Aaaaah we got two lovely Plymouth Rocks at the auction today! And we sold our Aracuana rooster too, so the plymouth rocks are in quarantine in his shed c:
The ducks are growing up big and strong, though sadly one of them is going to have to get put down- the tendon on one of his legs slipped so he really struggles to walk ): I wish I could have know what caused it- he's getting duck food, so he SHOULD be getting enough niacin :/
