Sorry, didnt clarify enough about the isolated birds. They will hopefully eventually be housed together.
The hen is named Melonie. She watched her friends die at the hands of some predator, and was the only survivor. We brought in a new flock, tried to introduce her. She seemed fine, but a couple days later she went after one of the hens, my BLP, Victoria. Victoria nearly lost her life. Melonie was separated, and began to eat eggs out of trauma (she quit laying right after the attack then started egg eating after that). I was told to kill her. I held on, and eventually, she stopped eating eggs. I don't know why she stopped. People say they never will, but she did. After she quit egg eating and the big group was sorted out, I attempted to introduce her again. This try, I had her in a pen inside my coop. For a week, all the poor girl did was pace and hit her head on the wire. She hardly slept. She was stressed, and upset, by the other birds. I pulled her from the main coop and she seemed a LOT happier. She is in sight of the others, but she has a little coop to herself now and just seems altogether much happier.
The rooster, Tyrantosaurus Rex, was supposed to be a hen. I was told they were all hens, but they were not. 3 hens and a roo. He is a huge, hulking bird, still growing and even as young as he is, he is MEAN. I figured he could give Melonie enough fuss that they would get along. I was wrong- he gave her too much of a fight. He went after her, flattened her under him, and started shredding her. He pecked at her face and comb, made her drip blood, and she was crying for him to stop. This hen is NOT submissive, she is a nasty creature herself, but he really hurt her. She became terrified of him. They can now free-range together without issues, but not yet able to keep them in the same pen. I will be working with them tomorrow.
So..goal is not to make them suffer at all, but to keep everyone happy. Melonie attacks and hurts my big coop's residents, who are all very gentle birds, and she just doesn't like being in there. Rex is a mean little bugger. I hope soon they will be okay together.
When Rex matures, he will be a leg-attacker and a boy who leave hens barebacked, I'm afraid. I'm going to remove his spurs of he grows any and probably get Melonie a saddle to protect her.

Sorry we take crappie pictures.
