Yes, it is. A great example of this is: There's a fire in your house. You've got a dog in the same room with you. The fire has englufed your entire house, your bedroom is all that has been left unharmed. You've got your bedroom window open, yelling for help. The firefighter climbs up his ladder and picks YOU despite your efforts to hand your dog out first. The dog is shoved back, and you are saved. THEN the animal is rescued, but only after YOU the HUMAN has been rescued from the flames.

I would tell fireman to take my dog or i would take dog on my arms and go out together. We aren't worth more than animals.
Only people are destroying environment. And people are the most cruel animals.
If are really at the top then we should show that we are deserving being at the top and we should be better than animals not worse.

I can't say I wouldn't fling the dog out the window ahead of me, either, to be quite honest. Mostly because I know I can make rational decisions and have foresight that the dog can't. ...That, and in a fire, I'm also likely to not be thinking entirely straight!

Let's hope I never have to test this hypothesis in an actual fire!

You should also take note that most of the animals tested on are near the end of their lives anyway [rats usually only live for, like, three or four years, and for other animals it's even shorter]. It's not like people test on animals with another decade of life left in them. It's like donating their bodies to science, except this time we get actual reactions, actual results.

Actually, as a ex-tech for a fairly large animal testing facility... The animals are breed in the facility and tested on in some cases from birth. They tend to live all of like a month, unless needed as adults for studies (Note Im mainly talking Rodents. Pigs... are only used as piglets, cows only as calves... and sheep as adults... or fetus.) You dont see many animals "Near the end of their life" in a laboratory.

Also note: Im NOT stating a single opinion in this thread. Simply Facts, so I dont really care what the responce is to this.

But don't you think it would be considered cruelty if there is someone dieing of a painful disease and not doing anything about it? and what if that disease spreads and becomes an epidemic? Sure when the animals are first tested they might be in pain but than researchers develop a vaccine and give it to the animals. I read awhile ago that with the swine flu vaccine that was tested on ferrets that all of the ferrets survived. I am pretty sure that the ferrets forgot about getting sick in the first place. I am actually glad that there is a vaccine to prevent the swine flu even if a few ferrets had to be sick for a short time so it can be developed. More people have been affected than the number of ferrets tested and they went through worse pain for a longer period of time. My dad's coworker's husband got the swine flu and died a few days later (i believe they had two kids) and a very close friend of the family(he is like a young grandpa to me) got the swine flu and luckily survived. He called from the hospital to tell us the news and could barely get the words out. They actually told him that he did not have very good chances of surviving. (i think it was less than 21%) So of course i am going to be fine with testing a vaccine on animals. They are going to be in less pain and for a shorter amount of time then people that get it. No, I don't. I had swine flu. Yes, it freaking sucked. I did not leave my bed at all for weeks, my head spun and I was so sick I could not even go on the computer. I was too sick to read, draw, or do homework. I just lie there and slept for 23 hours a day. Noises were agony, lights were agony, breathing and drinking were agony. Everything hurt. But, I would get swine flu a second time if it could prevent animals from suffering. However, I am immune to Swine Flu now, and just like with a vaccine, can never get sick from it again. No animals suffered for that immunity, and just like every other species must work hard for survival, I suffered for the benifit I gained.

Why are people so much better than ferrets that we can overlook them because we got a vaccine that protects us from the FLU? The flu is a constantly changing and evolving virus that we will never eradicate. Why should something suffer to give us a few months of pretection? A FEW MONTHS, in exchange for living, breathing, feeling creatures. People get a flu shot EVERY YEAR. The vaccine is changed every single year. Animals suffer for that single year of protection EVERY TIME anyone gets a flu shot. The flu is a mild illness, yes, it is awful and it sucks and sometimes people die, but it makes you wonder, why did they die? Oh, they had an auto immune disorder. IF you get ill enough with the flu to die, then maybe you shouldn't be spreading your genes!

So then i guess you think my dad's coworker's should get rid of her kids???? They were on a vacation when he got sick and it quickly got worse and by the time the took him to the hospital it was to late. So are you now saying that she should kill her kids because her husband got sick? So because he died, his genes must not be worth passing on so she should get rid of them so she can do humanity a favor? Who cares that they might make great discoveries or be like their mom who helps develop medical products(with out testing animals). Also viruses can be the same thing like the flu but attack different parts of your body. It could attack your brain, you heart or other organs. I went on a trip and caught a common cold and quickly got over it. I did not notice anything different until i went to my doctor and he told me to visit a cardiologist. I have been diagnose with PVC because a simple virus attacked my heart. Also if someone is under a lot stress because of things happening in their life. i.e. family dieing, family terminally ill, hospital bills ect. They are more likely to get diseases and get seriously ill.
If you read the article i posted it said that some household pets got the swine flu from their owners. So they can get the disease.

But what about the people that know you? Don't you think the fire department would be sued if they save a pet than the owner. The family can sue the department for not doing their job and causing the family pain. How do they know that it was really the last person's wish to save their pet instead of their own? Also do you really want to leave your pet alone? what happens if no one can take care of it? The dog will go to a shelter traumatized by the loss of its owner and about the fire. Chances are that the pet could be so traumatized that it will be but down because no one will adopt it.

While I would tell the fireman to take my doggie first too, I don't think animals are worth more than humans. I think we ARE worth more. Because, if humans aren't on the planet, there's no one who would CARE to prevent the endangered species from extinction, there would be no one who CARES whether the sunrise or sunset are beautiful, there wouldn't be anyone who CARED if the world was rotting or not.
Animals don't create anything new, they don't dream, they don't plan their future and they don't have moral. They just live to survive and to reproduce.
Humans on the other hand have abstract ideas, they dream of new things, they explore and they build, they plan their future and they judge. At the very least, they have this potential. Animals don't have it. They don't need it. Humans, however, in their complex societies, need their brains.
But that's just my two cents and I do understand that humans have different opinions

I have found something regarding a jellyfish's central nervous system HERE.
Apparently, they have a RING central nervous system because they're not symmetrical (don't have a left and a right side).
They have fewer brains than other animals, though, so the existence of this doesn't automatically give them feelings like sadness, happiness or anger. Most animals don't have them and jellyfish don't have them either, for sure.

In the fire convo going around, I would save my cats before myself. Of course my boyfriend and our kids would be first in my book, but my cats come second in line, since my cats give me much more stress relief, and companionship, and unconditional love than most people do.

But don't you think it would be better to save yourself for the sake of your kids? they will move on if something happened to the cats. If something happened to you they would have no mother!.... just my opinion.

I love my pets and would do my best to save them but when there are people who NEED you and depend on you then your life is worth more than a cat's..... just my thoughts
