My beautiful boy, Sandy, passed away about 3 weeks ago. We had just gotten back from a road trip to California. I spent the night at home, and he was doing SO many binkies. He was so happy to see us back home after a week. The next day, I went to my boyfriends house to stay over for the night having missed him during the trip. I get a call at about 11pm from my mother, saying that she thinks Sandy just died. He was 10 years old, we have had him for 8 of those 10 years. I don't know if it was old age, or if his little heart couldn't take all the excitement of having us back and he had a heart attack. We just don't know. But he was gone, and I wasn't there to say goodbye. It broke my heart, and I cried a lot. All I can say is that I am at least glad that my boyfriend was there to comfort me. If I was alone, I don't know how I would have handled it by myself.

Captain - I'm so sorry to hear that!! I dread the day that happens to me; my Kenna is 7 this summer. I'm glad he lived a decent life! I'm sorry you didn't get to really say goodbye, but on the other hand I'm glad to hear he didn't suffer.

About my own bunny - I'm being a lamebutt eating Cheerios right now and she's running circles around my chair and trying to get at me for my Cheerios.
>_____>
DOWN, BUNNY!
I pulled up my feet; she always makes me nervous that, like a shark, in her excitement she'll mistake my flesh for num nums..
This rabbit and cereal/chips/crackers is nuts.
If it's tasty and crunchy and comes with a crinkly wrapper, she wants some.

I have a question :) I may get a bunny but my mum thinks that my cats will eat it. Is there a way I can prevent that?

Hello, heres my rabbit experience, for all the care to listen! :) (I'm bored, and i have nothing better to do, don't judge, mmk?)

It started when i was 9, i got my first rabbit- Missy, a flemish giant. (we did NOT know she was a flemish giant, we where told she was just a mix of many breeds) further research by my parents after i got her, showed she was pure bred, SHOW QUALITY flemish giant!! i don't know about you guys, but around me, their pretty pricey! we got her for $10  anyway, she grew HUGE, (obv) luckily for us, she was very friendly, though sometimes she did try to get a little to close to our poor toy poodle, if yah know what i mean.

About two years after getting Missy, we noticed a few bad habits begin to form, mainly chewing on like, everything! but the most concerning one was one month, she started pulling out her fur, and making a nest of it! (you can see whats going to happen here, can't yah?) i forgot to mention further on, but as friendly as missy was, she was a major escape artist. (her second name was houdini. lol)

To cut a long story short- somehow she escaped, had some 'special time' with some rabbit, somewhere, and got preggers! Where still not sure who the papa was, but all the babies where very healthy, she had a 6 babies, 4 of which looked like mum, a gorgeous snowy white, the other 2 where a very light brown, lighter then the normal fawn.

*PLOT TWIST* (kinda)

we where absolutely smitten with missy's kits, and we decided to keep them all, stupidly, not separating them, and stupidly, not desexing them. we later found out that one of the rabbits, (one of the lighter brown ones) was a male, and all the others, females.

And thus, the cycle repeated for two more generations, until our yard was completely over run with rabbits, and we decided we should probably have them de-*exed. (not sure if i can say that on here?)

after that, i grew to love rabbits even more, and i know am the proud momma of 8!

Absolutely!
The rabbit can live indoors in a large cage. They are pretty easy (and affordable) to make yourself! I use storage cube panels like these:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/6 ... SY300_.jpg
and I use zipties to fasten them together. You can even get creative and make it into a bunny condo! By using wooden poles for support (they are called dowel rods and you can buy them at the store), you can rest shelves on top. Make sure you space them appropriately so that the rabbit can hop. The panels are typically about 14x14 inches and if you have a medium sized rabbit, one panel per 'storey' of condo should be fine. A bit lower for small breeds would likely work fine too. My rabbit is a Mini Rex and is about 5-6 pounds, so I'd consider her medium-ish (personally).

This condo:
http://breyfamily.net/images/bunnycage/FinishedCage.jpg
Does a great job of having enough space between the levels, though I personally feel the middle level is a bit small. I would've made the top level smallest and the middle level bigger. I also like how they covered the levels in fabric (such as towels or a cheap fleece blanket) to provide traction. Bunnies have fur on their feet and may slip a bit on smooth surfaces.
The size shown is fine also - it's 2x3 panels. I prefer 2x4 if it's just a pen with no upper levels but I know that space indoors can be an issue sometimes.

To keep your cat out, basically just make sure your cage is completely enclosed. That means if you make it yourself, make sure you put a top on it (more panels work fine). And don't forget to make a couple doors! You can use some sort of clip to keep them closed. You want to be able to bring your bunny out and also have access to each level so you can reach in to clean it.

When you let your bunny out to have floor time every day (they need exercise and love to explore), you can just make sure the door is shut and your cat is in a different room. You could even slowly introduce them. My cat has met about 8+ cats and isn't bothered by them. Usually the cats are either SUPER curious and get in her personal space to sniff her, or they are suspicious and don't want her to come near them. Still, it's best to introduce them slowly and be holding at least one of the animals to prevent any attacks/injuries and never leave them alone together, just in case.

Some more examples:
http://nt.petplanet.co.uk/images/produc ... /60860.jpg - This one I feel is definitely too small; the rabbit could MAYBE do one hop across and takes up most of the length just by laying down! That'd be like being trapped in a closet all the time.
http://www.bassequipment.com/files/imag ... aphic2.jpg - I know some breeders do wire to allow easier cleaning but I've never been a fan and again - I personally consider this too small.
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/23 ... 0ae386.jpg - This one looks cool if you are able to have a permanent pen attached but since you have a cat, this likely isn't the best idea for you.
http://www.petsgallery.xyz/wp-content/u ... fgjk3f.jpg - Terrible quality picture but great size! It's 2x4 panels with 3 levels, so that's neat. Looks like they have too bunnies in there. I'm not as familiar with what is appropriate for multiple bunnies.
http://rabbitbreeders.us/wp-content/upl ... Cage-4.jpg - I do have a cage like this at the moment but it's REALLY important look at the sizes. Mine is 2'x4'. That means it's 48 inches long, so when she stretches out she doesn't even take up half of it. She is still able to stretch up and just baaarely can reach the top if she really tries, and she gets daily floor time. If you can't do daily floor time, size is extra important. I simply have a small cat litterbox (half Carefresh bedding, half timothy hay), food bowl, and water bowl in her cage. She had a pen for 6 years but right now she is on carpet so I needed something with a plastic bottom. She doesn't pee on the floor, but if she gets extra bored she might pull at the carpet.

I know the feeling of losing an old bunny friend. When I was little my rabbit Jessy was put down due to being so old and having several problems. I was very upset and it was a shock for him to go. Don't worry he'll live on in your mind, heart and bunny heaven :3
I was a toxic 11-13 year old lol.
