My usually friendly black lab, Ruger, brought something heartbreaking to us: Baby bunny. It's eyes aren't even open!!
My brother picked the thing up and looked it over. Amazingly, there wasn't a single scratch on it.
The internet said that black labs feel paternal to baby rabbits. Ruger found it and, thinking it was abandoned, brought it to us- completely unhurt. Huh? Ruger is a retired hunting dog, who'd brutally murdered all types of animals before- grown rabbits (sorry), birds, stuff like that... So we ran out there screaming because we thought he was trying to kill it for us, which is what we raised him for.
Nope. He was trying to help. (Great, now I feel bad for yelling at him and telling everyone I hated him. I'm not usually like that, but I was shaken up badly.)
We put the bunny in the yard, hoping it's mom returned, and we are waiting now.
Any advice for what to do next time this happens? Not medical advice, of course. c:

I have a mini rex/lop rabbit, he weighs about six pounds and is just a pet, nothing more. He doesn't eat a ton of hay (I give him plenty but he doesn't care for hay much) but to make up for it I give him a ton of fresh veggies every day (kale, parsley, etc). I want to set his pellets up to autoship so I don't have the problem anymore of being nearly out and not able to get to a store (I don't drive so I have to rely on my mom to try and get to a store and buy him the RIGHT food which won't ruin his teeth any further).
Does anyone know about how long a 10 lb bag of food should last him? I'm thinking maybe 2 months? He goes through a 5lb back in about a month but to be honest I've never rly paid attention to how often I buy him food. I don't want to set it for 2 months and then he goes through it quicker than that and I have to improvise for a week or however long.

Could you wait a couple months before setting that up? And maybe write on the bag the date you opened it, or write it all on a calendar to keep track. And if you don't already measure out his pellets, perhaps you could do that too to be consistent? I remember doing some reading on what my rabbit should get for her weight, marked that much on a plastic cup, and have been using that cup for like 5 years. I scoop some pellets to that line, then feed her about half of that when I wake up by 7 and the other half when I go to bed around 10/11. I refill her hay as needed and she gets her veggies when I get home around 3-6 pm (my work schedule varies a bit).
