Bunnies and Rabbits!

Postby StarTheDarkWolf » Sat Jan 03, 2015 9:11 pm

This is for people who own bunnies or wondering how it would be to own a bunny.I currently own a bunny named,Silver and he is just my little baby(I spoil him).If you're wondering what to do or if you need any tips or help with your bunny or just reading cause you wanna own one.

Owning a Bunny or Rabbit
Owning a rabbit isn't easy but it can be fun and you can learn a lot about your pet

1.Cleaning the cage is what makes owning a bunny hard and gross. The cage must be changed every time it gets fulls(maybe every week or so)NEVER let it get full.Use the right bedding,it must be comfortable and fill the cage with 2-3 inches.

2.Rabbits need an appropriate diet. Fibre, in the form of hay and grass, is the most vital food for rabbits – it’s essential for their digestive health, and they can die without it. Whilst a small daily amount of green veg is good, a diet based solely on vegetables, fruit and carrots does not provide all the nutrients that rabbits need, leaving them malnourished.

3.Not many people know that rabbits can be trained. Those kept as pets can really benefit from reward-based training. For example, they can be trained to exercise and go over small jumps, which in turn is great for their health. Being active reduces the risk of rabbits becoming overweight and even obese, as well as providing physical and mental stimulation.

4.Do not be scared when your rabbit does this. When rabbits ‘binky’, this is an expression of joy. They will run, jump into the air, twist their body and flick their feet.(my bunny does it a lot)

5.Rabbits can take baths but do it correctly. If it is done wrong you will end up killing it.Rabbits are generally self cleaning like a cat. I am granting as a given that a rabbit bath would only be required in extreme cases. If you clean it wrong you may cause it to become stressed and die.Make sure you have rabbit safe shampoo(not dog, cat, or human). To sum up: rabbits are fragile little balls of anxiety that can drop dead from stress, so try not to stress them.

Feel free to ask questions or ask for help.Watch your bunny and study his/her behavior and learn more about it and please take good care of it.They may seem adorable and easy to care for but the need tons of good care to stay alive. :D

Hello, wasn't here for a long time :?

I read an article about from some german breeders visiting a rabbit show in london. There were surprised because only a few rabbits had a tattoo, they had a ring on their hind legs.

I've done some research but I couldn't find any german articles about it and I just doesn't know what to search exactly in english, so that's why I'm asking here :D

So, I'm not a breeder but still want to know some thing :D

1. When and how do you attach these rings to their legs? Any problems?
2. Can they cause health problems?
3. Are those rings dangerous when the rabbits run free in the house or in the garden? Like they stick on something?

Just interested, because I think these rings are more animal-friendly...

I found a picture on this page: http://zwergwiddervonderglatt.beepworld ... inchen.htm

Ah yes, just like in other places an ear tag is used (don't use ear tags though because all that I have read on them is that they cause a lot of harm to a rabbit.) .

1. I would assume the best time to attach the ring is when the rabbit has grown to it's full weight/size so that the ring isn't too small as they grow. If done as a baby the ring will either fall off or will be too small.
2. The ring could cut into the rabbit, cause sores, and in cold climates it would be uncomfortable. The ring could also be a constant irritant to the rabbit as it moves. As the rabbit cleans itself, they could cut their tongue if the metal ring has any sharp edges.
3. There is always the possibility of them being caught on something. Vines, string, wire, all possibilities.

I have never used the rings, nor ear tags. I do use a tattoo though. You could use a Sharpie Marker, or Indian inked pen if you don't want it to be permanent. There is the clamp which pierces through the ear, but it only lasts a second. Or the many tattoo pens like the EZ-Tat or Inkinator, which takes more time but is a surface 'indent' to the skin. Always use indian Ink. I haven't heard of anyone's rabbits having health issues. It is not something that will irritate the rabbit throughout it's life. If you numb the ear with a numbing cream (Can't think of the name at the moment) or use an ice cube, the rabbit will hardly notice a thing.

Thanks! I'm not planing on marking my rabbits at the moment (2 of them have tattoos, the other 4 nothing), I was just wondering bc I never saw that on a German rabbit :D (excluding NHD or Mini Lop imports)

I want to bred rabbits someday, but (sadly) I have to wait at least a few years xd

Kenna received her new litterbox for Christmas. xD It's blue.
Poor thing had to spend a week without me; I went up north to visit my boyfriend's family with him.
She's clearly enjoying having me back (especially as I doubt my dad checked to replenish her hay regularly enough).
Things are back to normal in Kenna's world now.

I haven't posted on here in FOREVER but anyway both Waffles and Simba are both doing great. Simba is 7 years old and Waffles is going to be 2...

Anyway, my most recent rabbit story was that I was attacked by my friends mini rex Simona. Not to sure why I was attacked but that was the first time I have ever been attacked by a rabbit... I have a huge bruise and cut on my arm but I am fine and so is she. My friend said she has been going through a lot of random mood swings and hasn't been acting herself recently. Such as biting, chasing, and just aggressive acts like that. She is spayed and is a house rabbit and spends lots of time around people. Any clues?
