I would suggest to get a mix breed from an animal shelter.Lion-haired bunnies are sweet, but there coats can be difficult to manage.

I recommend seeing if there's a rabbit rescue nearby your location, unless you plan on showing. Rabbits at rescues/shelters are altered(spayed/neutered) and have had spent time with them so you can know their habits, if they are litterbox trained, etc.

Any rabbit can make a good pet. You'll get nasty tempered ones and great ones in all breeds. lol Most popular pets are probably dutch, mini rex, netherland dwarfs and holland lops. They are all quite small and easy to care for. :)

Thank you all for your feedback! However, I'm not sure if there are any rabbit shelters/rescues in my area, so we might have to find a trusted breeder or something like that.
@Juke-Box-Hero, I might show if I get the chance (4H over here), but I'm fine with getting a rabbit that can't. :3

I personally love big rabbits and I am not fan of mini/small rabbits. I personally find them allot more nippy, as for big rabbits are more laid back and usually love to be pet. I never had good experiences with small bunnies :p I personally, love big rabbits compared to minis...

Rabbitheart wrote:Actually, to add what was said about possible health problems for English Lops, because their ears are so long, they can get dirty, so you'd need to clean them off and check them to make sure nothing is inside. They can easily fall victim to ear mites if allowed to play outside. If you allow an English Lop to play outside, I'd suggest that you always check their ears afterwards to check for bugs and things.

Also, on other pet breeds, Holland Lops are also a great first pet rabbit, in general they are affectionate and rather dog-like, they enjoy snuggling and cuddling and, if you're as lucky as I was, they'll even give you kisses. ♥

Eh... yes and no. Their ears aren't normally the problem, in fact they don't catch ear mites as easy as you would think.

    Hello,
    Does anybody have any tips on how to make sure my bunny is warm and happy now that it's getting colder? It recently got very cold where I am and I'm a little agitated that my bunny is cold out there in a hutch on his own. I have put fresh hay in his hutch for him to snuggle down in, a bit of carrot, his usual serving of pellets and a pink blanket, as well as a bottle cover to prevent his water freezing over. Is there any more I can do for him, preferably which I can do for him now at home, or have I done everything I can right now? He has a very thick coat too, but I'm still worried. xD

    Also, my Snuggles is a very naughty bunny. Today, it was very dark outside when I went to put him away, so I thought it would be okay to leave him unsupervised for two minutes while I went to fill up his water bottle from the kitchen tap. I was wrong, the second my back was turned he started digging in the corner of the garden, and when I came back outside to put him in his hutch, he noticed my presence- I have never witnessed a rabbit run that fast to his hutch! I'm almost certain he KNOWS he shouldn't dig, he just chooses to disobey me deliberately. XD

What we do, is put a tarp over the cages. Covers them from wind and rain :)

Straw is very good because the heat stays in so your bunny is wormer!

my pet rabbits, strawberry and jet, have been trained to come through the cat flap by my brother; but now we regret it!
strawberry and jet have succesfully chewed/destroyed;

*our wicker basket
*my ipod charger
*our internet cable (twice!)
*our lamp cable
*my mum's cheque book
* the land line cable (three times!)
*my mum's phone charger

they also do other stuff;

*go to the toilet on our beds
*destroy our bed covers
*use my mum's ex's pillow as a toilet
*attack us
*grunt at us
*spill their food everywhere!

If he doesn't have a hiding-box, get a plain cardboard box without any glossy cover on it, cut a big hop-in hole in it and fill it with straw. If it gets too cold, he'll hop inside of it and snuggle in. Hoods off hooded litter boxes and hooded pet beds work too (example of hooded pet bed)

Lol wow this is why my rabbits stay Out-Side :shock: . However one time I bought 10 baby rabbits from someone and my mom let them lose in the house for about 5 mins and she claimed she was watching them....y-e-a-h. They chewed up my internet cable and a clock wire. I was sooo mad :evil: I had to pay 20 bucks for a new internet cable. It's something about wires that rabbits just can't resist. :?
