Thanks!! I’ll be sure to post updates :D. The boys all seem to be growing in dark fur, man I’m gonna be so sad If none of them are orange like their dad. Does anyone have any knowledge of mouse genetics? Id love to hear colour guesses! Here’s mom (black with a little white on her belly) and dad (equal amounts of orange and white) : Image Image

you're basically looking at epistasis. i don't know a whole lot of the subject as i
only took around three classes on the subject, but it's the way of determining the
colouration of hair, eyes, etc. in people and animals based off of the parents.

i also found this diagram regarding two agouti mice breeding and the likelihood
of getting white, black or agouti coloured litter. this is the quote that follows.
An example of epistasis is pigmentation in mice. The wild-type coat color, agouti
(AA), is dominant to solid-colored fur (aa). However, a separate gene (C) is necessary
for pigment production. A mouse with a recessive c allele at this locus is unable to
produce pigment and is albino regardless of the allele present at locus A (Figure 1).
Therefore, the genotypes AAcc, Aacc, and aacc all produce the same albino phenotype.
A cross between heterozygotes for both genes (AaCc x AaCc) would generate offspring
with a phenotypic ratio of 9 agouti:3 solid color:4 albino (Figure 1). In this case, the C
gene is epistatic to the A gene.

i've gone ahead and found a video
on epistasis so you can create a diagram (sorry, i would of done this for you, but it's
almost one in the morning!) and find out about the colours. this is the video.
i hope this helps, but if it doesn't, shoot a reply and i'll help you out!

edit- i went back and looked at the video again. it's a bit complicated, and so if it
doesn't help, i think this one definitely will!

Hope everyone and their rodents are doing well!!

*I just purchased a triple critter nation for 150 (usd) and I was literally screaming the entire drive home because it's such a STEAL!
Minor rust on corners from a few years of urine but other than that I put it together no problems! I posted a sneak peak on my rat's IG (those.ratty.boys) and I can't wait to show the finished product once I've decorated it! The girls were so pleased with all the climbing they were able to do. :)

a triple critter nation for 150 dollars? that's such a bargain.

honestly, even online shopping, single units aren't really sold where i'm from.
you can get a double tower for the grand price of £330, but i've never seen a
triple for anywhere less than the £300 mark.

I still can't believe it. Especially since this was posted in a rat group on FB.
I'm not using the third unit because I'm insanely short
and it didn't come with another top, so I'm just using it as a playpen for my 4 week old foster kitten.
I honestly think I just got lucky that the woman selling it was downsizing.
I do think she could've gotten more for it but I'm so broke I wasn't about to mention anything :'>

Tell us about your pets: my boys, ruby and scrim, first rats I've owned :)) Ruby's albino and Scrim's hooded. Scrim's pretty skittish still, and Ruby loves chilling in my hoodie or on my shoulder.
Other: Love seeing pictures of all the babeys on here <3 they're all so sweet

Does anyone know if a gerbil suddenly losing weight without a change in appetite is normal, or if I should be worried?

She's just about two, and supposedly meant to live another two years. Bearing in mind though, I have been on a long camp, so she hasn't been given the usual fatty treats I give her, just her muesli!
