Does anybody have a labradoodle? I do! She is currently 5 months old and is caramel colored. She is super playful but she is also teething, which is leaving marks on our skin. It even got to the point where I was called to the guidance office because they though I was cutting myself, but it was just my puppy's bites. Any advice on how to help?

(Also, she lost a tooth the other day, and it was so cute and tiny!!)

i'm working on sewing senna a sweater. she gets really cold in the winter, and she doesn't really like having blankets over her but she doesn't seem to mind sweaters. so i want to make her a halloween themed one! last year she was a lobster (weird, i know) but this year i might make her some sort of skeleton dog costume? it sounds like a fun challenge.

does anyone here have a kelpie or a kelpie mix? senna is a kelpie corgi mix, but no one really seems to know what kelpies are haha, at least around where i live.

First of all make sure you have a variety of chew toys for her, teething hurts and biting helps relieve the pain. Things like bully stick, antler chews, pig ears, rope toys, etc.

Second, teach bite inhibition...

Deac. wrote:So. Sewing.. For dogs? I've made a few harness capes, And a couple of bandanas. Does anybody else sew for their dogs?

Also! I want a thick collar to be really flashy, And i Just like the look.. I've been thinking about scoobyandscrappys on instagram but does anybody else have any favorites?

AnnDdDDddddDd, Muscle on pitties? How? Deac has some muscle but thats just from running, And Agility ( he jumps off walls on command and it has really built up muscle!? ) I guess i'm lucky he has some natural muscle, Most people actually try to put muscle on their dogs.. Anyways, The point of my question was.. Activities to help your dog build muscle?

I lied, One more question. Tips on rear end awareness? I've taught deacon some things to help keep him out of the way, But i wish he knew how to side step, And how to go from a come straight into a heel. Right now I ask for a through ( he walks through my legs ) to put him into a heel but its complicated and awkward at times. As for like switching sides in a isle and stuff, I'd just like to keep him closer.

i want to try sewing for my girl, when possible for christmas something ...windproof,waterproof outside, polar fleece inside, protects back and belly, neck, hind legs....maybe a long sweater cat jacket thing :D
till now i did crochet a scarf, bandana, collar like infinity scarf and a sweater like coat..
it is only not so easy to find basic ideas for sewing for large dogs, ....as it is easy to find ideas for sew things for small dogs and put it on them,... but to get a large dogs with long legs into things is not so easy....

i would love to try sewing or crochet a winter hat to her scarf...but did try two times and it was stupid looking and not right...very sad^^
-
activities to help your dog build muscle?

i always find natural muscle way bether than those powered up muscle some put on there dogs that they nearly cant move jump run and turn anymore and look mean and sick...

so when you like a working sport dog that is healthy and can move....then try a combination of different things, like maybe bike joring, dog scooter, swim, running, agility, dog dancing, ball sport, herding sheep , trick training, confidence-strength- coordination- mental focus- strength-stretch-endurance-body awareness exercises ... stretch and massage your dog...
i like Canine cross training put together with things from canine rehabilitation and physical therapy training as there are some real good exercises
Please klick them or they will die°°!!!

I'm sure there are lots of dogs in shelter/rescues that would be great matches for you.

As far as breeds go I think Pits or Shepherds would be a good fit. I would also also look into the various breeds of retriever and other sporting type breeds (spaniel, setters, pointers, poodles, etc). http://www.AKC.org is a good resource in the US, so is http://www.Petfinder.com Look into breed clubs, go to events, and talk to people who know the breed(s) you're interested in to get a better idea if that breed is a good match for you. Many breed clubs run their own rescues and breeders (only go to a responsible breeder that health tests, temperament tests, titles, takes back dogs, etc) will sometimes have an older dog that either they've decided doesn't work with their program or has been returned. Many shelters/rescues have waiting lists, so just because you've never seen a breed be posted on petfinder doesn't mean they don't show up. Dogs often go to people on the waiting list who are never announced to the general public.

If you have the ability I highly encourage fostering. Although every dog is different it can give you an idea of what you can/cannot handle in a dog. It will give you the chance to try out different dog breeds/personalities without the finical or emotional commitment of getting a dog that ends up not working with you. Many shelters/rescues also allow people do adopt their fosters and many people have found the perfect dog for them that way.

If you can't foster (or in addition) try volunteering. Shelters/rescues can expose you to a variety of dog breeds and personalities. Dog shows usually need volunteers as well.

Please don't take your dog Trick-orTreating. While you're dog could be the most well behaved other dogs are not. Dogs can become highly adgited by so many children/adults in costume running about and making noise, and so many new smells. Dogs who may otherwise be fine when you walk past their yard might dart out the door or through an invisible fence to attack your dog. And if you bring your dog onto other's property it may very well be you who's legally responsible for any damages if a fight ensues. Even if it's off the property your dog could be seriously hurt or killed which is something I'm sure you don't want to happen and don't want your kids to witness. Even a fight that doesn't result in injury it is very traumatic for everyone involved and can cause an otherwise friendly dog to delevelop behavioral problems that will be expensive and time consuming to deal with.

If your dog gets loose it could wander into a yard with another dog and be attacked, or very likely get hit by a car. Halloween night has the highest rates of children getting hit by cars and I would imagine the same goes for animals as well.

Also your dog could pick up and eat something off the ground (like chocolate or candy containing xylitol) which is toxic and could kill your dog or at least cause an expensive trip to the emergency vet which will be busy. Again, not a great Halloween memory for the kids.

And even if your dog is normally fine with children your dog could become stressed on Halloween and become difficult to handle or even need to be taken home.

Please for the safety/happiness of everyone involved do not take your dog Trick-or-Treating. Bring him out in the yard for some photo ops with the kids before then leave him safely home with a nice chewy or puzzle toy. If the kids want to celebrate with him find a doggie costume parade near your and/or have your own in the yard.
