Yello,,
Deacon, My dog heels slightly behind me, And I'm slowly learning to hate it, How can I fix it, I've tried going back to step one and luring him to a close heel where is shoulder is in line with my leg but its like hammered into his brain to heel with his head to my leg.

And with his back up. He'll do 4-6 steps backwards and then move his back end behind me, He has a command block and he thinks he needs to go into a block midway into his backup? And i need help fixing it

@ Deac
did you or someone else train the dog :?:
what breed was he again...i dont remember :) it could be this when he does it as puppy too..

a lot like when they heel like this i think they say i is a more "submissive" way for the dog and push him to walk there...did see it often with so called no force owner-trainer what i found strange...but well who knows...
some say head has to be on the leg, other say the shoulder and so on..^^

i have to say...i dont know how to get a dog to get more to the front....maybe light pulls on the leash with half turned in hand with a heel front command......
or maybe put in turns that are very sharp and fast, to the right and left, go slower and more fast too.....around trees up and down hills while you turn left and right and back with no sign bevor...to make the dog more awake on your walks....

and to the back up....hill work helps...also a fence or wall...ad you Keep the other side closed...train slow, one step and then the next bevor you do something different...dogs do not like back up so much for long time...you can try and train them, massage them and do a good warm up bevor you try back up......
and for some ddogs it may be painful or not good to do...so when it is like this then you only can do some steps back when even this....

I trained him, he's part apbt, Part lab (hes in my avatar) I didn't understand the first part of your message, But he's the most submissive dog ever so if walking slightly behind me is a sign of submission I'm sure thats what it is, I know backing up isn't painful for him because his exited little self does a half jump half walk backwards as fast as he can. He thinks its a game :/ Lol.

I hate him walking behind me? Its so so annoying gahh

then maybe train the back up to go more calm and slow :) and when he did it without jumping back then he can play with some toy or get a treat he loves^^

and maybe try the turns, ...i have to say i use this for horses^^ but knnow that it works for dogs too...they had a very slow "lazzy intelligent" dog, with this they wake up more, look out more for what owner does next momennt and walk a little more fast and come to the front of youre side.....so maybe it could help him.

i asked that with the breed as some love to walk behind the owner as they can look out for them more...like nefi and other big calm dog like them..^^

is he after treats :?: then...you can try... can put it, the treat-meat...- in your mouth and feed him like this, one step one treat till the dog walk adn looks at you all the time for your next sign what it should do, with time you can give him comands with only a eye roll,....a working dog trainer told me this...but i could not do this..was not my way. :? but i did see it with a goldi and a border collie who did a crazy good heel and whhere always looking at the face of there owner and watching them...was interesting...but the dog needs to be one who wants to bless owner and always Looks after them..
could something like this work for you...

Hes exited to learn, But he's still very calm, he rarley does the backup calm and slow so after i get the back up straight I'll calm him down a bit. During training i normally let him be a goof because he knows while doing Pa he needs to be calm, and he always is. I doubt he'll do the weird jump while in a store or something 😂

You know, I've been giving alot of horse commands to my dog lmao, my lessons are giving me some good ideas and training strategies for my dog because my instructor doesn't just put me on a horse and teaches me how to ride, she teaches me how to train the horse to do all the things its doing while im on its back for in the future if i ever end up getting a horse of my own , Its easy to translate it to dog training to sum it up,,

see^^...you start to whistle when you call your horse and use horse commands on your dog....last time i called whoha to stop a strange dog...
one can use it both ways...train horses in some dog ways and dogs the way of a horse
...now that i think about it....ground poles could work for heel and back up training...when he needs to walk over some (maybe poles like you use for dog jumps or this swimmig aid thingens) then he needs to go slow and when you put them in a * shape it could make it interesting to try the back up and heel over it...even walking on a normal pole from a jump ^^

do you walk horse and dog together? is also a nice training^^

Bruno is looking older by the days, and constantly in and out of the vet due to bloat and stomach issues </3

what did happen, they did sound as if they got bether? poor boy...hope he is soon on the bether way and no stomach hurt :)
do you want to do x-ray or ultrasound to see what it is?

Marley was at the vet because he was extremely sick from a illness that I cannot pronounce haha. He’s better and healthy now. (:
Bruno has ultrasounds and x-rays.. he has a stomach that twists, known as Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (GDV) It’s a life threatening thing and if it keeps happening there’s not much they can do.. We can try surgery but it’s extremely expensive..

ohhh.. that is not good, poor bruno ...i had to look up this illness ...im sorry to read this....

i hope meds help him and you dont need surgery...or something else does help...

and i remember that on the dog training place, there was one of there working dogs, who had this, but they only did know this, as the dog jumped on his dog house all the time and did need emergency vet when one f the handler found him down on the ground crying, they found out that it was a twisted stomach and bloat...but i did not remember the name now i know it...they did the surgery where they did what wiki did say they "firmly attaches the stomach wall to the body wall, to prevent it from twisting inside the abdominal cavity in the future "...with slow feeding big chunks food and 4times a day he was good to work in an different place again as they did not want him to jump on thing when searching things.

can your vet cut the price a bit, or let you pay in small parts so you could pay it slowly over time? or use video of surgery so that vet students can watch how it is done right by a pro, some clinik may do it for free then....really dont know

all will wôrk out, one dog is bether and the other will get there too! ^^

Unfortunately my vet won’t do that you have to pay everything up front and this surgery is $3,000+ here.
