@Radical Raven
Happy birthday, Marley! That certainly looked like a delicious cake. He was such a cute pupper, and such a cutie now too.
Calling a yellow lab "Marley" though. Ouch that movie still makes me cry ;-;

So my aunt's puppy, Kaiser, is growing into his colors.
His coat went from more black to a red, making him a red sable GSD.
Not exactly what she wanted, but she's not complaining.
He's... 4-5 months old I think? Around that age.

Image

The girls, they're doing great.
I learned that three of them are sister, her two younger ones are from the same litter, and her oldest dog is from another but the three have the same parents.
Her fourth female is from completely different bloodlines.

All the girls came back with amazing health and genetic tests!
They all tested negative for the bad things the GSD breed carries, and they're all great with each other.
Good personality, good work drive.

Her girls!
The two sisters from the same litter and the oldest.
Alana, the one on the far left was attacked by her first male over a toy, so she has no muscle control over that ear from the injury. The male has since been fixed and rehomed.
Sasha is the one in the middle her service dog. Diabetic alerts and mobility.
Cymber is the one on the right and she's as gentle as she can be.
Image

Sasha is I think 3 1/2
The other two are 2 1/2.

Alexis, who isn't pictured above, is 3.
She's got a thick slightly wavy coat. She's a water dog. :lol: :lol:

      does anybody have any tips on introducing two dogs? (as in introducing a new dog to a current dog.) i have no plans of getting another dog as of right now, but i'd love to know more about it. it seems useful information, even if its just introducing two dogs who might hang out occasionally but not live in the same household. plus, i'm still learning a load about dog training, and am just generally curious.

Back from the vet. Gonna me monitoring the lump for a week or so. He said it is probably a histiocytoma but advised just monitoring it closely for a few days. Otherwise we will be having it removed. Fingers crossed that all is well.

Heya! I've got a Malinois(our second after two GSDs) so I thought I'd pop in just to reinforce the importance of finding a good breeder, especially if this is the breed you're going for.(:

Temperament is something super important to keep in mind when it comes to Malinois. Unfortunately, there are a whole lot of breeders that disregard how important this is and produce dogs that are skittish, aggressive, or all-around unstable. Temperament testing is crucial, as well as health testing. Genetics plays a big role in a dog's stability and temperament, but socialization is also super important when it comes to preventing reactivity. This will teach them how to remain confident and stable in new environments and around people/animals. A common misunderstanding is that socialization means teaching them how to be friendly with other dogs/people, but there's a whole lot more to it than that. ^^

A good breeder should select a puppy that is best suited for you, based on your skill level and your future plans/lifestyle. Even if it is not the one that immediately caught your eye, your breeder should match you with a puppy that is ideal for you. I would really stay away from any breeders that advertise "first pick" or "first come, first serve" and find a breeder that will match you with a pup that best works for you.

A quality breeder can also be an incredibly valuable source of information and advice! Considering they are familiar with the breed and specifically your pup's lineage, they will ideally make themselves available to you should you have any questions or issues while raising your dog.

You should also keep in mind the level of variance within this breed and know what you are looking for. Some breeders produce show-line Mals that are not quite as drivey/intense as those produced to be working dogs, so that may be something to look into for your first Malinois.(: I would seriously recommend checking out dog events and/or shows and talk to different breeders. You can meet their dogs and discuss the breed, and they can help you figure out what exactly you are looking for in a Malinois. If their dogs aren't what you need, they may be able to point you in the direction of a breeder that produces dogs better suited for you. I would also make this recommendation to anyone else looking to buy a purebred dog, regardless of breed. ^^

This is our girl Luna. She is certified in detection and tracking! Giving Mals a job to do isn't usually optional if you want them to be stable/manageable, but you don't /necessarily/ have to go to the extent of getting them titled and certified. Keeping them mentally stimulated and giving them things to do that make them think is what is most critical.(: Mals can get by with a lot less physical exercise than you may think if you also exercise their mind and keep them from getting bored. ^^ I would wholeheartedly recommend looking into dog sports though!! Getting your dog involved in bitework is something I would also suggest, since it can help teach your dog control and how to manage its "Maligator" bitey side. ^^ IPO/schutzhund is what many Mals are produced for.(:

Also please keep in mind that nobody here is trying to attack you or say you don't know what you are looking for in a dog! We all just want others to be successful with their dogs, and Mals are notoriously challenging for folks who are not experienced with working breeds. <3

Also! I made an instagram account for Luna and Deebee! the_mal_in_the_moon is the username, and I'll follow back any of you guys who also have dog instas. <3

@Skysong: Your Aunt's dogs are gorgeous! It's making me so excited for my GSD boy to come home in like 5-ish weeks. 😍
Her new boy is particularly good looking! I love sables. I'm real curious as to how his coat will mature as you can never know for sure with them since they go through such an insane amount of changed as they mature.

He was more black when she brought him home!
His coat lightened up so much in the time she’s had him it’s amazing!

He has this one spot on his side that looks like a spot I dirt and my aunt hates it because it looks like a spot she could rub/wash off. 😂
