maybe he was trained not well enough at the breeders, with a first name that the breeder did give it, and when they got there dog they did use a new one or one that was not easy to understand for the dog...or each one gives an other name or fun name...and poor doggy does so not know that someone wants soething from him-her  , or trouble with hearing could be also a problem... or to lazy to follow the Name...or to intelligent for its owner and knows one is calling but does think that there is no need to follow...or it is his-her breed....
(may i adk what breed this dog is :?: )
trump is an easy name you can call or shout over a field..but a dog with name like...quincallero or regalitz..does not work well

a vet can tell if he has a problem with his Hearing when the breeder id not do this already... and when all is alright, then maybe a bether training on the long leash or long rope with only one Name or a bether Name that the dog likes and follows^^

The dog is a, what was it, Schnauzer, I think not 100% sure. His name was Bandit
The breeder didn't give him the name. (Tbh I would hate it if the breeder got to name the dog instead of me XD)
The owner said that whenever they shake the treat bag or open it the dog comes running so I don't think the hearing is the problem?
Here is a picture of Bandit, he was soooo tiny Image

Nemo already recognises his name at 11 weeks, you just need to say it a lot and reward. :D

@ ja984
that...Bandit is....cuuute
but when is he a schnauzer mix^_^ what a cute face and blue eyes^^
so he really is to clever for his owners and trained them well  we all really learn well when our Dogs teach us new things ;) ...shake the treats and i come..do call name..they are "was there something " no..alright going on with playing ;)

my girl got her first name from her breeder, and got a new one from us that worked bether for her :)

most do this, only when you did see the puppy after the birth or some day later, and asked for one of them and did give the Name yourself, then they wait. but they need some name to do the first basic training till 8-10weeks...
......or should they call the puppy "please the red one comes here an the black one goes out to potty...or number 1,2 and 4 go out right now as you look as if you Need to potty and 3,5-8 stays andd plays on" or "Black let go of black ears and dont jump on black all the time to chew there leg " ;)
they still accept when you get them and call them always with a new name :)

I have a rescue dog (some kind of herding dog mix). I have had him for about a year and a half how. He is great doggo and loves people. His only problem is other dogs. If he sees another dog he will bark his head off and if he is on leash he will lunge at the other dog (but he is still wagging his tail). Any advice for that? He is about 5 (do not know his exact age). I have tried front pulling harnesses (the one by ruffwear) and when he sees another dog just trying to run past it so he does not start his barking frenzy.

@ Tyree
your dog sounds nervous
you did say he does it only on leash :?: then did you ever try to just let the leash fall to the ground and walk on like nothing is there, or turning an other way without much talk and walking on.....
how is he in a free dog park :?: (after you did work out some energy bevor it...)

maybe when you like to train him to stay calm, maybe try to ask someone to help you, with a calm gentle dog, stay where he is calm and walk there...a large meadow works well for this, or on the street behind- or in front of the other dog,.. but so much away that your dog stays calm at this place. With time go slowly a step closer and walk on, till one day or even after some h calm walking on a trail you walk behind or next to the other dog. you will see when your dog is ready t get a step closer or a step back or when to stop for the day after a calm good momet :)
or use a treet bag that he catches to come little bit closer and closer to the other calm nice dog who has no problem with this.
or let him carry a dog saddle backpack
or a toy that he like in his mouth.....some dogs are calm when they have something to do or have something in there mouth like a loved toy.

Tail wagging isn't always a sign of joy. Dogs wag their tails to convey all sorts of emotions, anxiety too.
Does he have any dog friends/dogs he's familiar with? Perhaps try getting him together with another dog he knows (even just a gentle dog he sees often) for a calm and relaxing "playdate" outside in an empty field somewhere and go from there. Whenever he looks like he's getting anxious, just guide his attention away from the other dog and soothe him.
Being a rescue is a factor too, I don't suppose you know if he had any dog-related accidents before you had him? Perhaps other dogs trigger a bad feeling or memory from earlier in life, based on experiences he's had before.
