I just saw you responded to me, Im glad she’s better! Poor thing! My friends dog Zeus (the coonhound I’ve posted in the past) was rushed to the emergency vet on the fourth of july, apparently he took prescribed medication out of his wife’s purse and almost died by one pill. Luckily he’s back to normal and healthy again, he played with Oppie yesterday and you can’t even tell he did anything.

Wow, glad Zeus is okay. It's amazing the way some dogs can bounce back like that. When we were in the ER there was a woman who was there with her Wippets. One had been in a little while ago because of an injury and had medication. She left the medication on a counter and the second Whippet knocked it off and got into it so she had to drive back to put dog #2 in the ER.

I remember taking a babysitting class when I was younger that spoke about "purse poisoning" and the importance of keeping them out of reach of kids, apparently it applies to dogs too. And tough thing with dogs is child proof caps may not always help since some can/will chew through a plastic bottle.

On another note your boy is looking cute and has he lost a little weight?

I’m a little late but Angel had a great 4th of July!
Image
We went to a barbecue at my family’s church and he met lots of people! There was a kid who kept scratching his belly(which he does not like. He only likes soft pets on his belly). It was super annoying cause I kept telling her he doesn’t like it but she wouldn’t stop. I managed to lead Angel away but she eventually came back >.<

Another puppy joined the barbecue, an adorable lab mix named Bowie and he was 4 months old. Angel kept trying to play with him but every time Bowie barked, he freaked out and ran back to me. I think he was more scared because Bowie was pretty small and he doesn’t seem to like small dogs—whether they’re bigger than him or not.

He does just fine with bigger dogs though, a week or so ago he met my mom’s coworker’s Pit and did fine though he didn’t appreciate her trying to sit on him and he met Chandler for the first time the other day and was super excited about it! He even doesn’t mind when our neighbor’s Golden Retriever barks at him but as soon as their Dachshunds start barking he runs back to the door -.-

He also jumped in the hot tub with my parents last night. He was only in there for like a second before my dad pulled him out, though he kept trying to get in earlier (despite the lid being on) so I’m guessing he didn’t hate it lol

He doesnt seem to chew on things enough to destroy them but I’ve only had him a week and a half so he might just not have had enough time to tear through anything yet.

very cute :D
depends on how destructive he is ;) my girl is a large terrier, and she loves to play toys to the ground, and im often after them sewing part together so she can play some more  we have a kong plush thingens,it is 1-2years old now the toy... it did loose the hair on its head the first to third day... and some day later there was cut on the neck, but it did hold after double sewing it together. So i think it hould be alright, just look how he plays and see that it stays together or sew it close again. But my girl loves it.

Thank you! He isn’t very destructive so I think he’ll be fine. I plan to get one once my mom has a day off ^^

My mom tried to cancel the vet appointments for tomorrow. I fussed at her because Lady has a strange lump on her belly and needs her nails cut (they’re so thick we can’t do them at home) Gizmo needs X-rays done. And four out of five of them need their shots.

There’s been multiple confirmed rabies cases in my area and we don’t want chances being taken with our older dogs.

If she pushes it back any more, she’s not gonna get it done. So I’m gonna make sure she doesn’t cancel the appointments tomorrow morning. This vet charges a cancelation fee per dog if it’s less than 24 hours out from the appointment, so I think we’re going.

I have a old dachshund, 13 years old, she has terrible teeth, and with me living with my parents still they think since she is so old it wouldn't be worth getting them fixed, I have tried regular toothbrushes with homemade tooth paste but her gums just start bleeding immediately, I heard healthy teeth help your dog live longer, and with me having such a strong bond with my dog I would love for her to live a few more years.... is there any at home things I can do without hurting her and getting the nasty plaque off, knowing its probably nearly impossible without a tooth sander??

More:
She also is very fat, 22 pounds, and with it being so hot my parents dont think walking her would be a great idea, she just got out of surgery yesterday or the day before, so she still has a cone, which is flimsy.... her eye had a small cyst, but she is already rubbing her face on the carpet and finding out how to get the flimsy fabric cone to fold so she can itch it better, I am requesting my grandma to let us get a sturdy one, but she always says, "Do you want to go tell the vet that?" I am just saying it would best to be putting on a plastic one during the day and when its night she can use the fabric one??

I have 3 questions that I can’t/ am to lazy and busy to look for elsewhere.
I have one dog, Luigi, he is 7 years old and another one, Mia, who is 2. Both of them are shih tzus.

1. Luigi sleeps in the living room and keeps ripping holes in his bed. I have found how it is happening, We call it, “he is pretending it’s his girlfriend. Now, Luigi is a special needs dog. He is incapable of many things, but we are trying to find a way tha he won’t destroy his bed. If he doesn’t have a bed, he paces all night and only finally falls asleep when he crashes.

2. Luigi also Hates getting his teeth brushed but i need to find away to brush them. My last shih tzu I wasn’t as worried about it but his teeth got so bad that they were falling out. I have tried the sticks that brush as the dog chews on it but he just swallows those, I tried peanut butter tooth paste and that doesn’t work. I red to find a way to brush is teeth without him biting my fingers.

3. My other dog, Mia is a sweetie. She is perfect in every way, To me atleast. But every toy I have gotten her she destroys. I can’t get her stuffed toys anymore, or the fabric ones with squeakers or latex like squeek toys but she just won’t play with the toys without squeakers anymore. I just cant seem to find a toy that lasts. If you could help I’d be grateful. She is, as stated earlier a shih tzu, so she is small but she mauls those toys QUICK.
"I was younger then, I wasn't afraid of anything, I didn't think about dying for a second. I thought I was invincible. Then I met some girl. I wanted to live, I started to think like that; for the first time I was afraid of death. I had never felt like that before."

Please please please ask your parents to take her to the vet to get her teeth clean so you can start with upkeep again. There aren’t many products that loosen build up of tartar and plaque. She’s gonna be without teeth if you guys cannot do it and also could have infections and everything else. This is coming from a dachshund owner who follows many fb groups.

For the cone, you may just have to watch her, I haven’t found a sturdy one that isn’t the standard cone because an e-collar cone wouldn’t work in your case. For her weight, is she a mini or standard? My boy is 18lbs currently. You’d need to give us a photo to help gauge. Cut her food and add unsalted green beans, that will slim her down some.

Also, I ordered a stack box! Dachshund on display lol. He’s slowly realizing getting on it means treats. I want him more toned but it’s so hot.

Which technique did you guys use to teach your puppies not to bite?

I'm working on Nemo's puppy biting, but he doesn't seem to be getting it too well. Should I just persist or swap techniques?

That would depend on what technique you are using right now?

When Link was in his nippy puppy phase I always redirected him to a toy that he could chomp on to his hearts content. That worked really well for us.
To this day, if he's got pent up energy and wants to be mouthy, he will randomly pick up a toy and carry it around the house with him chomping down on it like it's chewing gum. It's pretty amusing to watch honestly.
