I'm well aware of the differences between ESA and SD. I'm getting a letter from my doctor for my medical needs for an SD. I see her next week.

Also, I don't think you understand what I meant. I don't need her to pull me from the ground or drag me along the ground for help. I need her for balance and something to steady myself on and brace on when I get up and down as the pain is excruciating. The pulling task I was talking about is basically just her leading and tugging a little on the leash. I still walk, she just pulls me along to give me more momentum so I don't collapse. The dog will not be used to bare all my weight at all, just a brace to balance and to pull me for momentum when my back starts to give out.

This has all been discussed with a trainer and doctor. My question was only about age, nothing else. Thanks for the input anyway.

hey, so i just got a puppy yesterday after years and years of convincing my parents and reading countless literature on dogs, and that little darling won't stop crying. i get that he misses his mum and sisters, so is there anything i can do for him? i want him to be 100% okay in his new home ;;
i've consulted both a vet as well as my dog owning friends and they've all given me the same advice; spend time with him. (hopefully) this will disappear the more used to me he gets, but i don't want him to be anxious all the time like this. not sure if this information is of any use, but i've only ever raised cats before and my parents have both had dogs when they were kids.
if anybody could give me some insight on how to calm him down, that would be amazing. thank you in advance ♥

Ok, unfortunately this continues. Yes, the mom has a chip but nobody is answering either of the numbers on the chip and according to the chip, they come from a city about two hours away.
The vet says that she has seen this before, too many times, that these dogs are probably abandoned and the there were definitely more puppies that most likely... :( if you get it, you get it.
They are currently enjoying a rawhide bone after eating so much food that I am worried they might burst. It is really sweet how they are sharing it, I am so used to fostering abused, resource aggressive dogs.
I sent a message to the owner on whatsapp and will keep on trying to call him tomorrow.

@Luzian
Thanks fir the advice. But the police will not do anything. The mom looks like a cannan dog and the puppy a supermutt both will be treated more like pests than dogs. All the police will do is laugh. I can't keep them I will look for a rescue (I won't find one willing to take cannan dogs, maybe the puppy- but just to sell her, there is not a single reputable rescue where I live), or find them a home as soon as possible. About the spaying, I will just have to hope the adopter does that.

May I ask, where are you located (in general terms, such as state) and what is a canon dog?

Israel- not a state (depends on who you ask). A cannan do is a dog breed native to israel and the surrounding countries.

Hmmm. I would love to take them but I am in the US and that is not possible. And why would no one take the Cannan dog?

@snowflake-storm while stopping a new puppy from crying is ideal, you have to deal with that. that is part of the commitment. the screaming at four am like they had just witnessed a murder, you have to deal with that. is he crying in a kennel or when you are with him? what breed is it? how old? spending more time with the puppy, may stop the crying.. but will develop seperation anxiety. which basically means you get a one year old dog, destroying the house and not being able to be left alone because it was coddled as a pup. set times to let the puppy outside. exercise the puppy a ton during the day both mentally and physically. make sure to feed and water it and let it outside before you want it to go to sleep. i generally hope this all makes sense. it also depends on the age and breed of the puppy. it may just be a vocal dog breeds like this may be dobermans, german shepherds, huskies, etc.

as for my very own, well though-out question. i am going to try and do my senior project over the summer. my plan was to job-shadow a k9 officer but that is off the list. BUT! i am able to still work with them and see what they are doing and pretty much job shadow them but *doing* stuff. but, i have to make a product. i have a couple in mind but with the intense amount of anxiety i have.. they aren’t ideal. the ideas were hosting a fundraiser for them or doing a presentation about their jobs and handlers. does anybody else have ideas of products i can do?? i hope this makes sense. i just really need advice.

ohhh ...i remember something that can help you and the female with her puppy ...not fully sure about this :!:
i got it when i looked into wiki for this dog breed  that is great that the are canaan..even when puppy my be mixed ..

some year back i did read about a women who is looking for canaan Dogs....purebreed and mixed! as there are not so many of them anymore..
and after reading about this in the wikipedia i know what you should do...ask this womens or her organisation for help...they mostlikely take the two in and give them a great home....

->or look for service dog Organisation ....even in us or uk, canada
-> or in save the ancient Canaan dog rescue groups....they often even pay to fly out the Dogs
or Canaan Dog Project

this Dogs are lovely sport companion and perfect as sd dogs.... real fun and nice!!!!!

look at this from wiki:
Dr. Rudolphina Menzel (1891–1973) used these intelligent scavenger dogs mainly found in the desert as guard dogs. In the 1930s Menzel was asked by the Haganah to build up a service dog organization. She captured a select group of semi-wild individuals, tamed, trained and bred them. Menzel found the dogs highly adaptable, trainable, and easy to domesticate. It took her about six months to capture her first dog, Dugma, and within a few weeks she was able to take him into town and on buses.

She began a breeding program in 1934, providing working dogs for the military and she gave pups to be pets and home guard dogs. She initiated a selective breeding program to produce the breed known today as the Canaan dog
In 1949 Menzel founded The Institute for Orientation and Mobility of the Blind, and in 1953, she started to train Canaan dogs as guide dogs for the blind. Although she was able to train several dogs, she found that the breed was too independent and too small for general guide dog use, although some of her dogs were used successfully by children.

Her breeding program was concentrated with the Institute, where a foundation of kennel-raised Canaan dogs was established, carrying the name "B'nei Habitachon". She later supplied breeding stock to Shaar Hagai Kennels which continued in the breeding of the Canaan dog. After her death in 1973, Shaar Hagai Kennels, managed by Dvora Ben Shaul and Myrna Shiboleth, continued the breeding program according to her instructions. In addition, a controlled collection of dogs of the original type was continued, primarily from the Bedouin of the Negev.

Collection of wild Canaan dogs has become very difficult. Many of the Canaan dogs living in the open were destroyed by the Israeli government in the fight against rabies. The spread of the human population into areas that were formerly isolated, along with their pet dogs, has resulted in the loss of the natural habitat of the Canaan. Even the majority of Bedouin dogs today, other than those of tribes still living a traditional and isolated life style, are mixed with other breeds.
Myrna Shiboleth visits the Negev regularly, looking for good specimens living by the Bedouin campsthat she can breed with her dogs and use to strengthen the gene pool. they get one or two litter of puppy and then are only sport and famiy companion dogs

there are not many left, even more rare are purebreed or near purebreed ones and she really lookes like one...that could be great

hope it works and they take her in or help find a new home that is not abusive to her like her last owner..., and hope you tell how it goes^^

juliall wrote:Have you had dogs before? What breeds?
Yes, I currently have a labrador x pit mix, and a german shepherd x heeler.

Are there any breeds that have already caught your eye? If so, why?
Bernese Mountain Dog, Corgi.
I love the attitudes of the BMD, and have always wanted a Corgi, I think both breeds are quite smart.

How much time a day do you have to devote to training your dog?
I'd like to have at the very least 1-2 hours. I plan on training consistently throughout life as well.

What kind of grooming needs are you prepared to handle?
Whatever the animal needs.

What kind of energy level are you looking for?

I'd like an energy level that isn't too crazy, a dog that I can go out on walks with and play in the yard, but then one that can handle being inside as well.

What do you plan on doing with your dog?
Mostly family dog/companion. I'd like to do obedience just for fun though.

What size dog are you wanting?
I'm alright with any size.

What age dog are you looking for?
Whatever age.

What kind of livestyle do you live? (Active, couch potato etc)
I wouldn't call myself a couch potato, but I'm not super active. I'd love to go on walks, etc.
