Okay, so I know this board says not to ask for medical advice, but we are getting a professional to look at it, I would just like to see if anyone has gone through this and has any advice.
So our chickens have been getting sick all summer. We decided to get a necropsy done on one to find out what it is.
The chickens would get sick, some would die, but then get better. It was a cycle: sick, better, sick, better.
They suspected ILT, but since we froze the chicken, they couldn't be sure. We had to bring in a live one today so they could find out what it was.
We know that we could either completely quarantine out entries acreage, meaning nobody with chickens could enter the property in fear it spreading to other flocks. We also know that we could cull all of them and start fresh after a while.
My question is: Is there any alternative to that? We have grown quite fond of our chickens, and it would be pretty sad for us. Also, we own 4 domestic turkeys. Would they need to be culled as well? Would are meat birds (who are in a completely different area) be doomed as well?
If anyone has gone though this before and knows the answers, it would be appreciated if you could give some advice. We will be talking to the Provincial Vet if they do find it is ILT, and we will get results of the necropsy on Thursday. We do have the professional help needed, just curious to find if there is alternatives.
Thank you.
