Cockroaches

Postby Daevyr » Sun Sep 03, 2017 12:47 pm

Im the kind of person that really doesn't like bugs. I mean, to put it into perspective, I freak out when any come near me, let alone touch me. I just don't do bugs. At all.

My husband and I moved into our first non-apartment since moving to our city. We've only been here for two years, so we don't know too much about anything around here. We wanted a bigger place for when the baby was born, so that as she grows older she could have her own room. When we found this place, we thought it was perfect! The rent was decent, and the landlord was some little old lady that seemed like she wanted to help us. We even got a deal on the security deposit. But there's always a catch, eh? Yeah. There were bugs. Tons of the little buggers, mainly cockroaches. The german kind. (the species of roaches) When we told the landlord about it, she was quick to get the exterminator out there before we moved in. Unfortunately for us, the guy chose to come out on a day that we weren't out there, so we weren't able to see what all he did. There was evidence that he found a nest under the fridge, and he had sprayed that down. But it seemed that was all he had done, since the bugs were still around. Another phone call a few weeks later, and the exterminator came out again, this time leaving gel behind that supposedly kills them if they come within three feet of it. It was heavenly; the roaches were gone for a little while. But, now they're coming back again. But not the big one. No, this time there's babies, and they seem to be everywhere. I'm so livid, because I don't want bugs anywhere near my baby. I plan on talking to the landlord when we take her the rent this friday, but still. It's giving me the heeby-jeebies.

Has anyone else ever had to deal with cockroaches? How'd you handle them? And what worked for you?

First off, so sorry about this infestation!

Luckily, I live in the woods, so I don't have roaches (I have giant spiders and such). However, my grandparents' place in California does have them!

They do something to keep the populations down, but they also do this neat little trick: cover the areas where the bugs get in. The main problem is the bugs get in through a shower drain, so they put a drain cover over the drain when not using the shower.

I guess that if the roaches are entering from a place where you can block, block it.
So, I am no longer really playing. I am sticking around to collect pets which I will exchange for art. Please only contact me about art or if you need some advice or a listening ear.

Ehh, spiders would be worse, I think. We have this gnarly looking one that's taken up refuge just outside one of our bedroom windows.

As for the roaches, I'm not sure what we can do ourselves until my husband gets paid. But, when he does, we're definitely going back to the landord so she can call the exterminator again. I'm not going to pay for an infestation that wasn't taken care of in the first place. And as for closing off stuff, I'm not sure where they're coming from. I'll try to seal off the drains, but they might be coming from the vents. It runs under the house, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were gaps or holes in it. It's just a crawlspace, and I think it's up against the ground. So, yeah.
