Cool animals you've spotted?

Postby bookshelf » Sun Jul 16, 2017 3:27 am

Hi!
I just got inspired to make this thread because quite literally about 10 minutes ago I saw two coyotes in my front yard! I live in an area were you barely see anything other than robins and the occasional rabbit or deer so its really cool ! I've also seen a porcupine and a fox.
I just wanted to know what interesting animals you've seen in the wild?

last week i seen a baby mola mola!!! i was waiting for the boat that takes me home when i looked down in the water, thought it was trash first and then oddly thought it was a penguin (nowhere near penguins) when i realized it was a mola mola! i never seen one in real life and the fact that it was a baby was even more exciting. it was really close to the top of the water and then it submerged.
needless to say i was rlly excited and wasn't expecting to to see that, i didnt even know where i lived had them especially so close to a heavy populated area where boats are always coming in and out.

ooo also months ago, my first day of work i took the hill route, seen a coyote warning sign, dismissed it because the hill is smack dab in a residential area next to the city, and when i was going down there was a coyote literally in my path and it was amazing to see. haven't seen the coyote in awhile tho which kinda worries me, i did get a great picture of video of them though.

When I went hiking a few years ago, I ended up a few yards from a black bear! It was the scariest yet coolest thing ever! The bear happened to be more scared of us than we were of him, so he ran away after a few moments of eye contact. Hiking in New England has its scary moments!

Edit; Once, a chickadee flew down and bit/scratched my earlobe. Swooped right down and man handled my precious ear!! Boring animal for sure, but this little bugger was feisty!!

When I was in third grade, the news station showed up at my school and we were front-page news because an albino porcupine was hanging out in front of my school. He was relocated (or brought to a sanctuary? Albino animals have a low survival rate in the wild) so all was good after the gawking :P

I'm on the outside looking through
You're throwing rocks around your room
And while you're bleeding on your back in the glass
I'll be g l a d that I made it out
And sorry that it all went down like it did

i think the coolest thing i've ever seen up close was a baby dugong or a brown snake, both times with my dad

the brown snake thing happened first and we were walking up our usual mountain when there was legit like a baby (adolescent? slightly older than a baby) brown snake moving really slowly along the path and my dad (being the dude he is) bent right over it and was like "i think it's injured. i'm gonna move it" and i was like "wth dad" because he's always like this (brown snakes are the most dangerous snakes in australia so:)) but idk he kinda.. got a stick and moved it off bc the track we were on was pretty busy and a family behind us was freaking out a bit

the baby dugong thing was the most exciting thing to happen at my uncle's grandparents town (think the most boring place on earth, only thing to do is go to the kinda lame beach/fish, legit 4 shops in the whole entire town, basically full of old retired people) & we were fishing when we saw this thing bobbing up and down really close to the shore where we were standing and we eventually realised it was a baby dugong (super cool!!) but we were worried it was injured/lost its mum or something bc it was unusual for a dugong to be so close to the shore, esp a baby w.o a parent, but it eventually kinda bobbed away so i hope he's ok now

Once a bald eagle flew over my head and landed in a nearby tree. It was really cool and my mom got a lot of photos! Unfortunately, it also dropped a half-eaten opossum in the backyard...

I've also seen lots of rabbits this year, at least 20. I guess it's a good year for rabbits in my area.

I see deer and rabbits pretty much every day.

Once, a huge bull moose came crashing across my path when I was hunting. That was exciting.

Saw a wolf pup stalking me. That was terrifying and I hated it.

Saw a couple coyotes running in front of my car one night after I had finished my drop-off route (I'm a "Big Sister" in theatre meaning I have a car and can give the younger kids rides home)

There's a nest on my front porch that is frequently occupied by baby Juncos.

I had a staring contest with a raccoon once.

I once went whale watching and saw the J and L pods playing together. Also saw the late J2, known as Granny.
So, I am no longer really playing. I am sticking around to collect pets which I will exchange for art. Please only contact me about art or if you need some advice or a listening ear.

The local deer are immensely chill as well as long as you don't step out of your car
