My friend has 3 gerbils that lived together happily for 6 months and now they started fighting and attacking each other. They get lonely on their own but as soon as she puts them together they immediately start attacking each other. Does anyone know why they started doing that?

I'm not sure myself but do you know how old they are? What genders too?

I don't know how old they are but they've had them around 5-6 months and before they got them they were still being kept together as a group. I'm pretty sure they are all female.

Well, sometimes there can be shift in the dominance. Again, though- I have males and prefer males so I don't exactly know if there is anything different for the females as far as dominance goes etc.

Sometimes it could be that they need more space or more food so they don't squabble. If they continue fighting you can try the split cage method,
although im not sure how that would work for three.

It finally happened! Vincent isn't afraid of being pet anymore! I have a !major headache from reading today on my tablet...

But anyway, He was on the upper level when I entered the room and I opened the cage. Usually two days before he'd scamper down- I rarely seen him on that level until today! He let me scoop him gently up and sat in my hand as two little kids pet him lightly on his back.

Edit; he let me hold him again. I know he's still somewhat scared but he doesn't fuss and I put him on the ground on a blanket and he just looked around then walled around it a little.
