Spent some time with Dorky Dork today! First we went on a short bike ride, then worked on some agility stuff and some other cues for awhile. This is her third session on 'place' (meaning immediately go to her elevated bed and lay down) and her first time being sent from that distance or with a jump in the way! Didn't phase her at all though!

I took a video of her running with the bike, my phone died before it uploaded though, so if anyone wants to see I'll link it later lol. Also I'm doing a semi educational video on nail trimming tonight if anyone would be interested in seeing it, I'd be happy to post!

Edit:
Phone charged enough to finish it lol:

This is a puppy broker. They are not running the puppy mill themselves, but are setting people up with those puppy mills and smaller scale BYBs and taking a fee for doing so. No responsible breeder would sell their puppies through a broker, nor would they need to.

These people should be shut down but are often skirting the law. The laws governing puppy mills are often not very strong and often require only minimal standers of what most people would consider humane, and are not often checked up on or enforced. Not to mention that organizations like the AKC actively fight against laws that would shut down or put stricter burdens on puppy mills as it would mean a drop in revenue from regrestrations.

It's harder too because people can get shipped a puppy that may be healthy at the time (genetic issues that could've been prevented with responsible breeding may not show up for years) and not realize or have seen the horrendous conditions from whence the puppy came. It allows puppy mills and bybs to get away with their poor breeding practices for longer. Stricter and better enforced laws would be great but ultimately the best/fastest way to stop these kind of operations is for people to stop buying from them. But many want/think that buying a puppy should be as easy and hassle free as buying a toy off a shelf.

No, I cannot strongly state enough that no one should be buying a puppy from that website or any other puppy broker. If someone is going to buy a puppy it should be from a responsible breeder.

So uh, today we found out Olive has some pretty scary resource guarding when it comes to chews. She hasn't shown any other guarding with her food or toys (not even with her stuffed kongs).
It was pretty shocking. We gave her a edible nylabone chew and when we went to pet her she growled super loud and barked and lunged.... it was pretty scary since up until now she has never shown agression (she is pretty passive with people and other dogs, prefers to retreat when overwhelmed rather than confront)

Anyways we started working on it right away and she already lets us pet her while she has it, but it suprised me and now it's something I gotta keep a close eye on.

Most people will chew me out for this but I have to say that with my now 10 month old German Shepherd Dog Rose I think I got very lucky because she came from an Amish breeder YES AN AMISH BREEDER. I visited his home and his kennels. His dogs are healthy and live in nice kennels up off the ground. The floors of the kennels are wood but they are not solid wood they are thick slats far enough apart that the excrement (both feces and urine) can fall into a pull out tray but not far enough apart to catch a puppy's paw. The kennels and trays had been cleaned a few hours before we got there and the trays were still drying. The dogs are allowed to get out of the pens and run around on actual grass and rocks and interact with horses, cattle, goats, sheep and other livestock just like they were originally bred to do. I got to meet Rose's mom and dad and interact with them. They have very stable temperaments and are very loving dogs. Rose is very stable temperament wise and has had no health issues, other than the trip to Virginia where she ate kibble that she had never had before and it upset her stomach. Which helped me learn a lesson to carry a can of pumpkin puree with a pull top or a can opener. She is a drivey water loving higher energy pup who is in training to be a Service Dog for my husband.

Some, SOME, Amish and BYB are not what people really think they are. There are a FEW lucky ones that actually do care for the dogs but breed them in there backyard.

You probably shouldn't be buying any dogs off the internet. It always a bad gamble.
Unless of course you can go and see the puppy for yourself in person, before buying it and can verify it's healthy and see it's living conditions ect. I don't mean accept and ad from the internet then drive out to a random parking lot to see the puppy and then complete the transaction.

The fact that dogs are kept in people's backyards are not what makes someone a BYB. Being a BYB refers to someone who is not breeding responsibly, such as by not doing proper health testing of the parents, not proving the parents are worth breeding by titling/working, etc., breeding for reasons other than improving the breed (such as breeding pets, making money etc.)

Obviously responsible breeders can and should allow dogs access to their backyard. And someone who is Amish could be a responsible breeder.
