So I may be switching Spade's vet. Although Spade's ear is practically healed up by now, she's still being going to the vet quite frequently. Throughout the whole ear healing process, vet kept bringing up spay. First time she brought the subject, I firmly, but politely told her that no, I'm not spaying my 7 month old puppy. I told her my reasoning and I guess she didn't agree with me, so now she's basically making me feel bad for not spaying my puppy. I just think its very unproffesional, I knew my vet was a huge spay/neuter advocate, but she's not going to force an unnecessary surgery on me or my dog. All I'm asking her to do is care for Spade's ear, if I didn't speak to her personally about spaying her, why keep bringing it up? Its honestly just extremely annoying at this point.

@halogen I understand your frustration, but I can also understand your vets concerns. Spay and neuter advocates basically think that by not spaying or neutering your dog (or cat) you are contributing to the overflowing population which isn't always the case. However female strays are found with puppies sometimes because their previous unresponsible owners who dumped them on the street hadn't gotten them spayed.

Tarnishing everyone like that isn't going to help though not everyone is irresponsible and not everyone wants there dog cut open for something so small.

My vets dont mind about my dogs being unspayed and unneutered and is advocating for far less invasive methods to prevent unwanted litters ( like chemical castration ) its nice to find a vet who doesn't force the issue and we been with the vet from the first dog we ever owned. If a vet was willing to look at other points they might meet far less resists S/N in young dogs is actually quite damaging to growth as the hormones are still important till they mature.

If a vet is forcing the issue when you have told them your views I soul change vets I like having a mature discussion with my vet and you learn something new ever visit.

In other news, Lacey has been asked to the ambassador for one of the biggest dog shows in our area! I'm so happy that this is all possible because of her Instagram 'fame'. It'll be so much fun!

Congradulations Lacey & Flossie! :D

Well, that's their way of thinking, and is actually wrong. Spade hasn't even had her first heat yet, which ofc my vet knows.

aspen is now part of the family!

on another note, a sad one, my horse, airborne, is very ill. we took her in yesterday afternoon to a big animal vet. she has colic. :c we're not sure what is causing the colic, and we have yet to find out from the vet.

sokra, my aussie, misses her the most. airborne and sokra are best friends. airborne loved her from day one, and she's very good at obeying sokra's herding actions.

Congratulations on the addition of Aspen!

I'm sorry to hear Airborne is sick. I hope she gets better.

I'm so sorry about Airborne! Praying for her! Congrats on getting Aspen!

I have a quick question... I'm getting a puppy and I want to be his person, and I am going to be doing all the training and taking care of him. I live with my parents and an older brother, and I'm a young teenager... have any of you guys experienced a dog choosing a person other than its caretaker?

Sorry about Airborne.

And yes, my current puppy is more fond of my father than me. It is just something you risk when having a family in a dog's life; especially when your family won't work with your training methods.

Frozen apples for summer, anyone? I slice apples, freeze them, and them give them to Lola and Zelda as chews. They love it.
I have 4.5 days off so I'm spending it all with my dogs, haha. Probably going to a local lake for a swim on Sunday c:

@_K9_ - I'm also a teen, but I'm an only child. I have two parents and one other dog. My Dane puppy is totally my dog, and my Australian Labradoodle is our family dog. A dog forms a bond with you best when you put a lot of work in to take care of them, honestly. I prepare all of my dogs' food, walk them, work them, show them, and compete with them in sports. It's just about how much they bond with you.
