Happy to announce I've finally settled on a dog breed - Great Danes.
Tentative breeder selection is Cilka Danes (x).
I say tentative because the breeder is planning on keeping 2 of the pups (since the sire and dam are both extremely well shown and well-rounded). As we're a show home, we're hoping for a lucky turnout of 3 show-quality pups to allow for us c:

Opinions on Cilka would be much appreciated~

I'm curious as to why they don't allow Harlequins to be placed in pet homes. The only reason I can think of is that they are focusing on the color in the breeding program. This concerns me as color should be a low priority of a responsible breeder. I'm not familiar with Great Danes in particular, but to me catering to a color fad doesn't jive with responsible breeding to me. Other than that they look good on paper.

I actually spoke with the breeder over the phone about that. In the breed, the colours that are possible are merle, brindle, fawn, black, harlequin, blue, and mantle. (There are also rarities like fawnequin, but that has to be intentionally bred for and reputable breeders will almost never have any "combo" colours like that.) Harlequins aren't as common as the other colours and look quite unique, leading to many people asking about them for sale. However, only brindles, fawns, blues, blacks, harlequins, and mantles are acceptable for showing. So, the breeder only sells harlequins to show or performance homes where they actually need a harlequin, since pet homes can have any other colour.

The litter is due any day and I'm so excited! c:

Oh no you guys :c
So I was outside with Lucky and he knows how to catch things really well and I was going to take a slow motion video of him catching a ball but he wasn't paying attention and it hit him in the head. His reaction is kind of funny but i still feel bad. He seems perfectly fine and i pet him afterwards.

At first they looked like a wonderful until I saw their planned pairing. Pairing merles or harlequins to merles or harlequins can/will produce doubles which either die at birth, are blind, deaf, or have many other health issues. No reputable breeder would ever do such a pairing so I'd look for another breeder who isn't planning a litter that will produce unhealthy pups. It shows that they're focusing more on the color of the dog than the health of the pups.
Blame is a coward but self-righteous
A funny little creature hiding out in me
Hate is power with a price tag
A funny little creature screaming out in me
Listen to me
Fear is a liar but he's been right before
If you fight your shadow, you'll get lost in a war
Ambitions a champ, but he's also greedy
Drunk or sober he always wants more
I always want more
I always want more
Lust is beauty in a body bag
A funny little thing that's screaming "Just use me!"

aaa I realized that too, most likely those pups born will be double Merle
and as Eremite wrote, have a high chance of being Blind, deaf or both. Not including
the huge list of other illnesses. They seem like such a good breeder too, which confuses
me as to why they would breed two Merle's together ? The litter will most likely have
    many health defects .

I ment like where's the merle dog that the breeder is planing to breed. I only see 2 females a black and a harlequin where is the merle?
I don't agree with harl x harl breedings and would never pick a pup from a breeder who breeders Harlequin x Harlequin of course seeing as they still usually produce one pup that is a double merle the rest are reabsorbed. I though to great dane breeders its ok to breed them though?
