My wonderful dog Poppy was born on the 28th December 2010. She is a beautiful black Kelpador (labrador x kelpie).

I love her so much and she means the world to me, I'd like something special to remember this day, I bet she would love to see loads of birthday wishes, so could you please send her a special birthday message to make her day extra special?

Thank you!

We are getting the cone but trying to not use it because my dad thinks that dogs don't need pain meds or cones. I guess you could say he is more old-school. He wants to take the cone back for a refund. Any ideas on how to get her to not take her stitches out and what to do overnight in her kennel?

I'm not going to quote everyone that has responded to this but I am going to be the devil's advocate here, so hate me if you wish.

Firstly t-shirts can work with watching. I have used them numerous times instead of cones and my dogs leave them alone. What you do need to do is tie it up. I will generally get an old used one that I don't care about cut it part way up the back (so the side on the back of the dog) and then knot it. It stays snug to the dog's body and doesn't come off. Unfortunately I don't have a picture to show.

Secondly some dogs do fine without added pain meds. I have had four female dogs spayed and eight female cats spayed, only one out of all the spays have I need to give pain meds outside of the initial pain meds given from the vet. Yes I have kept an eye on them and they were all fine. So I would watch her, keep her calm and she could be fine.

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. Me and my dad planned on using the meds only when absolutely necessary and I am actually staying home from a family event tomorrow to watch her and make sure she is ok. This is one of the reasons why I had it done during Christmas break. And thank you for the t-shirt advice.

Any tips on biting, chewing, potty training?
Maybe walking too x3

That's awesome !!! I'd love to see pictures aaa Great Danes are precious <3 !
For biting, he's probably teething !! Just give him some hard puppy chew toys
and if he bites you, stop playing and give him one of the toys instead ! Always
use a positive method for training c: ! For walking, try using a harness ! A collar
sometimes can motivate the dog to pull harder.

Ahh, thank you!
As for the pictures I'll post one later. All I have is of him sleeping Lol.

@HistoryQueen - Happy Birthday Poppy!

I got Millie a new lead today, it's nothing special, it's 101cm and i should be able to control her better in it. All i have at the moment is an extendable lead which i loath with every inch of my being. (Nothing against people who use them, i just don't like them for myself)It looks like this:

^ we have one of those really short leashes for Mary! It's like, eight inches long? She walks lovely with it - with help from her halti - and I have her under easy control. We use a flexi lead to work on her recall, especially now that she's discovered squirrels :/

@ keriae - Great! I should think Millie will walk well on it, she's had ten years of experience on recall so she's pretty good by now, but i still don't trust her near roads, if there's a leaf that blows in the wind i wouldn't want her on the extendable lead near the road. This shorter lead will give me much more control and make me feel a lot safer. Good luck with Mary, and good luck to the squirrels!

@Imzadi83 - Thank you, I can't wait to try it out in the morning
