We are getting the cone but trying to not use it because my dad thinks that dogs don't need pain meds or cones. I guess you could say he is more old-school. He wants to take the cone back for a refund. Any ideas on how to get her to not take her stitches out and what to do overnight in her kennel?

Frankly, leaving a dog in pain after serious surgery such as spaying is animal abuse. Cones exist to stop a dog from pulling at their stitches, so unless your father wants her to reopen her wound, he should use it.

Yea. She's my dog but he is paying for it as I don't have a job. He also believes that animal abuse and kid abuse doesn't go beyond starvation, physical abuse, and neglect. He doesn't understand mental abuse at all. Not only that, my veterinarian gives us options: pain meds or none, cone or not. She says its up to us.

I read about using a t-shirt for overnight in the kennel. Has this worked for anyone?

Lately I've had more free time on my hands and I want to spend it with my dog. I want to be able to take him to the park with me but he is aggressive toward other dogs so it makes going anywhere with him difficult. I have a muzzle that I have to put on him during our walks around the neighborhood but I'm hoping I can find a good way to train him so eventually he'll no longer need it and he can enjoy going to a park without having to wear it. Any advice you guys can give to train him to behave around other dogs would be appreciated.

For christmas, I bought my beautiful dog Misty a massive chew, and it seemed like it would last her ages.
Nope! She ate it all in an hour and a half! :o
Huskies sure love their food

My dog behaves like this too!!
Unfortunately, I don't know how to train her to be nice to other dogs - as she's already 7 years old, I adopted her 2 years ago and maybe she has been like this her whole life.. I'm not sure.

Anyway, I hope you find luck in socialising your dog effectively!! :D <3

Your dog will be in serious pain. Organ removal is a very, very serious thing and you need to stick up for your dog. Your veterinarian should be giving you pain medication and a cone with no questions asked - they prevent animal suffering.

If you can't convince your father, offer to pay him back when you have a job and have the money. People could report you for animal abuse.

I used paper plates as an improv cone for my cat once. He had a wound on his face and at the moment my dad was out of work so we had to get a bit creative. I doubt it'd work for a after a spay on a dog but if there's no other options anything is worth a try.

A way to manage it would be to watch carefully and catch your dog's attention whenever he is alerted to another dog. So, when you spot his ears prick, his tail stills or any other signs that he's spotted another dog immediately call his name and draw his attention to a treat or toy. While you guys are walking make sure to not stop for any dogs and don't let him stop, keep him walking so he has to ignore the dog and again, draw his attention with a treat or something.

Frankly, my dad is "correct", or at least he thinks so, with everything. Since he hasn't used it on any of his previous dogs, and he has had at least 10-15 in his lifetime, he won't let us use it now. He even got pissed at me for wanting to buy Skai a greyhound-type collar because of the way her head and neck is shaped. No matter how tight I make her harness or collar, she will slip out of it. If I go any further, I will start to choke her and I refuse. He says I am spending too much money on her.

If she is your dog, you should have the final say.

Do not forget that this is a major surgery. You are taking vital organs out of your animal's body and you have a duty of care to prevent pain and suffering. Ask your father how he would feel if someone removed one of his vital organs and did not give him pain medication. I have a feeling he would not like it.

If you cannot provide the correct care for your dog you should not have it.
