Do you use other training methods such as +R maybe show your parents that your training methods work instead of having to rely on the other methods.

If they still wont listen then there really isn't any thing we can offer in way of advise.

Since Saracirce doesn't really come onto CS anymore, she asked me to update the thread on Charlie.

We originally intended to move to a different state and get Charlie on the way. That move fell through due to finances however, so we started looking for a pet friendly place that was closer to where we are now with the intention of getting Charlie as soon as we could.

However, things fell through with Mac's dad and he ended up taking Charlie to animal control without Mac's knowledge or consent. Once her stray hold was up on the 27th, she was pulled out of AC by a local rescue, and is now awaiting adoption. We're all pretty bummed about it :(

Why do people disagree so much about putting dogs in purses? Where does their hatred come from? Sure, dogs were born with legs, but if that small dog couldn't make the trip? Then what is the problem with putting them in a purse...? I've seen multiple people get chewed out for keeping their dogs in purses. Chihuahua owners mostly... As long as the dog isn't stressed, I see no problem with it! People argue that owners that have their dogs in purses don't give their dogs adequate exercise but in reality.. most do. It shouldn't JUST be if the dog is handicapped. It shouldn't JUST be if the dog is old. Why can't a little puppy ride around in a purse? It might enjoy it, and if it's tired, then it'll gladly accept the offer to rest its legs. What do you guys think?

This has come up with Service Dog handlers who see small breed Service Dogs being carried around in purses. It makes the dog look unprofessional and can reflect badly on other teams. I have seen small breed "Service Dogs" being carried and even then the dogs were snapping at other people and being just flat out nasty. I have also seen large breed "Service Dogs" be nasty to other people in stores or what ever.

I think it comes down to plain old ignorance. People make the assumption that because a dog is in a purse at that moment that it was only gotten by it's owner as a fashion statement and is not treated like how they think a "real" dog should be treated. People often don't realize that small dogs were not all bred to have the same stamina as Border Collies, Labs, etc. and may not be able to walk as far for as long. People often ignore or downplay the dangers small dogs face on the ground in crowded conditions.

Some of these people are just parent shaming because they think they know better, others just don't understand the unique needs of small breed dogs. Many were bred for companionship, and being carried around in a purse makes them a lot happier then being left home alone. People often don't take into account that being in a purse can be beneficial to the dog. Not only is it a safe comfortable place to rest, but it can be a great way of getting a shy dog out socializing. Forcing a small dog who is scared to walk on the ground when they don't want to be there can be dangerous as a lot of bites happen out of fear.

I agree with you, there is nothing inherently wrong with a dog in a purse, or a stroller, being carried, etc. Sure it can be overused. So can crates, so can being left outside, etc. When my Chloe gets scared, is in a place I feel she's unsafe walking, or is tired I pick her up. She's too heavy for a purse, but I have a pet sling and a stroller for her. I would do the same thing if I had a small child with me.

:c
I suggest maybe printing out a few articles for them so that if they insist on using the e-collar that they at least know how to use it properly so that they aren't hurting your dogs. Here are links to a few articles about proper usage:
E-Collar Basics
Less is More when Introducing Your Dog to an E-Collar

Also, here are a few articles about proper prong collar usage (I've never resorted to a prong collar myself, but I really hope that they aren't yanking them around by one, or leaving it one them for extended periods of time, or unsupervised at all...):
Prong Collar Training
How to Use a Prong Collar

They won't listen. They have said that they don't want to hear about it....

I know you have said you've tried and they won't listen and you'll get in trouble if you keep on bringing it up, but I still think you should try again. It more than likely feels like you just whack a brick wall whenever you try to change their mind. Trust me I have a really stubborn grandfather who doesn't agree with a thing I say about our dog, and this includes advice that even the most clueless person would know. But whenever I'm in this situation I speak out, no matter how loud he ends up yelling back, I still continue on. Even if you can't change their mind, let them know you don't agree and whenever you have the chance you will do things your way. Don't be worried just do it. What's the worst that could happen? At least then you have spoken your mind and everyone will understand what/how you really think and feel.
But then again you may not have the same attitude as me XD

Hey so I have a question and maybe you guys can help me.

So my uncle adopted Bruce (I put images of him like way back) and he is a fairly big dog. I have a physical disability and I loose my balance. Now Bruce likes to jump and play. He has pushed me quite a few times and every time I go on the ground he starts to like lick me or even lay on me.

Sometimes when I'm standing he goes on his two back legs and he has scratched me badly down my neck and even down my eye (got a good scar from it..) arms ect. Now I can't exsactly push him off on my own. And if I fall I can't get up on my own without help or support of a chair ect.

Basically what I'm asking is how can I stop him from jumping on me? He is a guard dog for my uncles farm and nan and I go there to feed the animals ect and let him off for whatever he likes.. but I just can't manage a big dog like him. Can anyone help?

    @Tipsy
Oh my! Such a gorgeous pitbull~~
    @.Phan.
Well my aunt owns two big dogs and one used to jump alot on me so we'd turn and show our backs so that he had a hard time jumping which kinda helped him calm down a bit. But I'm pretty sure there are other people who can help too with maybe better advice haha~~

Okay, so my other dog, who's about six turning seven is going to meet Samson and I honestly cannot wait. Bella isn't used to dogs at all because of them being energetic, the only dog she was used to was my cousins dog who sadly passed away from being paralysed from the waist down and so Samson is a tad energetic because of his shiba inu breed but also because he's a puppy so I just want him to get used to Bella and Bella to get used to Samson, how could I do that?

Have any of you guys ever given your dog an animal antler to chew on?
I gave my dog one for the first time just yesterday and she loves it!
We were afraid she won't but she is chewing all the time.
We found out it cleans her teeth so that is a bonus.
I'm just wondering if you guys have ever given your dog an antler. It helps clean their teeth : )
