were they fancy goldfish? what size tank did you have them in? also was it cycled before putting them in?
if they were fancy you would need a 100G tank, if they were comets you would need 215G :?

I hate how people at petshops misinform customers just to make a sale :|
or if they actually know nothing about fish then they shouldn't be advising people or selling them...

Fancy is what goldfish with round bodies and double tails are called. By normal you might mean fantail which are fancy goldfish. The other type are comets, commons and shubukins, long bodies with normal tail. A tank for a single fancy goldfish would be 20 gallons one for common comets or shubukins would be a 55gallon.
If someone wants to post some pics of the difrences that would be cool. Im not near a computer. XD

Edit: Found a computer. :3

Here are a list of types of goldfish. There are still more rare types they dont have on there like the eggfish goldfish.

sadly the tanks most petshops advertise as 'goldfish bowls/tanks' are much too small for even one goldfish

fancy goldfish:

comet goldfish:

common goldfish:

bettas are usually alot more hardier fish and can survive in smaller tanks then goldfish as they dont grow as large or make as much waste, they also dont require a air pump like other fish

common goldfish are really better as pond fish as you would need atleast a 6 foot tank for the 9 of them, also cycling a tank can take upto a month
