You probably shouldn't get a piranha. They're quite difficult to care for. Do you have any experience with fish? Do you knwo if they're legal? A pacu might be a better idea.

I think they're legal and yes I have had experience with fish phirannas will be a challenge but with the answers to the questions I have I can do it. Whats a pacu?

The pacu is the slightly larger, vegetarian cousin of the piranha. They look similar, but if they bite, you keep your fingers.

Lol I love the way you put that.

I dont know much about piranhas but here is a website.
http://www.firsttankguide.net/piranha.php
I also suggest you find a forum for piranha keepers and go visit your local zoo, ask the keepers about how they care for their piranhas.
With any fish dont forget to cycle the tank BEFORE you get the fish. It can take up to 3 months to cycle so dont forget a test kit to make sure your water is safe for them.

Do bettas get uneasy when alone in large tanks? Someone told me yesterday bettas are puddle dwellers, and males can't be alone in tanks, hating big tanks, and unable to handle tanks as large as two gallons.

That is false, bettas originate from the rice fields in Thailand and they occupy their own territory's in the water a lone. The fields are miles and miles long so a betta can have a lot of room if it can defend its territory. Even though its shallow that is a lot of room. They can be alone in big tanks in fact it is better for any fish to have a bigger tank, many betta keepers suggest only keeping bettas in 5gals and up but NOTHING under 2 gallons, 2 gallons is the very minimum. Wouldn't you like a bigger room vs a small room? It is impossible for a fish to survive in a puddle much less anything.

You can keep different types of smaller fish in with bettas rather than just having one male in a big tank.Im not sure what ones can go along with bettas, some of the other members here could tell you. As long as its not another betta (unless its female but then you would need 4 or more). :)

Yes, like Dakotak said, whoever said that is quite ignorant.
^^ I second everything that the crazy goldfish girl said. :3 (I call you that affectionately, Dakotak, you know that right?)

I needed more fish food... I'm getting to the bottom of my little jar and have been having an anxiety attack about not having it. xD So my mom picked some up when she went grocery shopping.
I know she meant well and I felt terrible about asking her to return it so can go to the pet store and get the food that I like. The one that she picked up just had too much protein for Manderine(my balloon molly) to handle.
Speaking of balloon mollies, my little thuggish fish has been getting square. /facepalm
I'm going to feed him a crushed up pea later. Just a little "house cleaning" if you know what I mean.

I agree what has already been said above I'm just adding, if a tank is too small for a betta it will jump out because in the wild they do live in rice fields/ puddles and if it starts drying up or they want to move they will jump out and try to find a bigger one that's why they can live longer then most fish out of water and can breath air
so the bigger the better

Any ideas on how to get Manderine to eat the pea? xD
That fish will eat anything I swear... besides the pea. o.e;;
I tried dropping a piece right in front of him, and he just looked at it and swam away, letting it fall to the bottom.

Try squishing it up and either putting on your finger or something like a straw?

You were probably thinking of me. I'm the brony of the group. I named my female bettas after pegasi. x3 Though I do believe Dak is a pegasister.

Maybe you could put some of it in with his normal food. Maybe he'd just eat it in a frenzy?
