PitchBlack wrote:Hello everyone, it has been a very very long time since I visited this thread. I just wanted to check in on the status of my aquariums. Our 10 Gallon Half Moon saltwater aquarium is no longer running since we bought a rock that was infested with bristle worms and they messed up the equilibrium of bacteria in the tank. So, this 40 dollar dwarf lion fish we bought turned up dead, along with his clownfish friend too :c
But for good news, we found a beautiful black with blue dragon scales half-moon betta so he has moved into our 30 gallon tank and lives with a very small pleco, a dalmation molly, and a decently sized angel fish. Our two oscars are still doing just fine in their large aquarium with a large pleco and a jaguar cichlid. And our 75 gallon cichlid aquarium is still doing well also. We actually added two beautiful wild-type frontosas just recently and they keep getting bigger and more beautiful by the day <3
So yeah, now my hubby and I are still trying to decide what we want to do with our 10 gallon half moon since it is just sitting on our in-table empty.... I kind of want to do a nice goldfish or two and be done with it, but my hubby isn't too into goldfish unless they are koi but koi get wayy too big for a 10 gallon... If anyone wants to suggest a nice set-up, feel free ^^

i love the sound of a betta fish :) especially a half moon, I don't have one but I have a crowntain betta fish. Sorry to hear about the dwarf lion fish, where did you get him? If it is a place like Walmart which don't care for their fish anymore then you can't expect nothing really, I get all my fish from Petsmart, well except Vicious Cycle, anyway, hope you can have a goldfish or two if your hubby allows it xD

PitchBlack, ten gallons isn't enough for even a single goldfish. You can only keep goldfish in a ten gallon as a temporary home. If you're thinking about goldfish, I would suggest upgrading your tank. One goldfish alone needs at least thirty gallons to be happy. :3

Other ideas for a small tank like that could be some guppies (I would suggest getting only males unless you can keep up with the massive amount of fry they produce), cory catfish, a betta or two (dividers are good ^^), tetras, platies, mollies, rasboras, the list goes on. Small tropical fish are good for small aquariums. (:

I would like to say that goldfish are amazing and have huge personalities, and are really fun to keep with the proper equipment. I hope you can get one or two soon. :)

actually doesn't a goldfish need a twenty gallon tank, and for every one you get you add ten gallons? I know that is probably for Fancy Goldfish, right?

Yeah, that's the rule for fancies ^^ I just said thirty because it would be better for the fish than a twenty (the bigger the better XD), and most people I know go with commons and comets, which need bigger anyways.

Haha, true that. XP

Well, I have a little treasure chest in the corner of the Hexagon tank. My white minnows usually just swim around at the top. I've got a wee little decoration with a fish, holding a sign saying "No fishing". XD Then a mini Patrick star decoration next to the treasure chest. I'm getting some new plants from Animates hopefully tomorrow, and maybe a couple new fish! - SQUEE - my dad's helping to fix the fluorescent light bulb for the fish tank, to help the plants stay alive. It's gonna be epic. XD

Its 20 gallons for one and 10 for every one you add after that for goldfish. :) Unless its a shubukin, commet or common. They need 55 gallon for one and 20 you add after that.
@ pitchblack
If you are into saltwater you could do a nano reef.

That sucks! do you know what caused his passing? I always get upset when my fish die. I had this one fish (shubunkin) that was my favourite, his name was Infinity (that's where I got my username from XD) and he died from swim bladder disease, right after my comet fish Mango. She died of the same thing. I'm sure I had them for around that long, too. I think it was 7 months. Do you have any other fish? :)
