I'm sorry about your fish. It sounds like swim bladder and a mix of ammonia poisoning.
Psh I pet mine too. Shiro gives my arm and hand kisses. I beg to differ about ALL fish being fragile. Goldfish can survive in a tiny tank with barly any filtration and no water changes for a long time. BUT PLEASE NO ONE TRY THIS!! Surviving and thriving are 2 totally diffrent things.
