I have that same filter. I just put some pantyhose(spell?) over the intake because my baby shrimp were getting sucked in. You do have to clean it off occasionally. I would also recommend sponge filters. They are awesome and you can even make them yourself.

I don't like how poorly pet shops take care of their fish. The Petco near us is tons better than the nearest Petsmart. They actually try to take care of the fish, whereas the feeder goldfish tank at Petsmart was littered with dead/dying fish and waste. It made me upset.

But a question too..: how hard is it to take care of guppies and the fry? I have a ten gallon tank set up that I will put the two guppies I'm going to buy in. Is buying live plants or a fry box thing better for the fish? And is it true that guppies actually like dirty tanks (since apparently they're bottom feeders? [according to my godmother x3])?

Guppies and guppy fry are not hard to take care of at all,ive got mine in a 5 gallon tank with gravel 3 plants no heater and no filter and there popping out babies all the time

Thanks ^^ I have THIS FILTER. It won't hurt/suck up the fry, will it? I have no idea how to cover it with a fishnet or anything.

You can use blue filter media,you can usually find cheap at most pet stores. It looks like this. http://www.petsolutions.com/C/Floss-Foam-Aquarium-Filter-Media/I/Marineland-Uncut-Blue-Bonded-Filter-Pad.aspx Just cut it to fit over the intake tube and tie it with string. You will have to vacuum the gravel really good since you are covering the intake tube. Sponge filters like a few people already said are cheap and easy and you can make them.

What do you mean by prepare it?

So the tannins don't leach out in large amounts. Like soaking it, or boiling it, etc. A little discoloration doesn't bother me. I just don't want it to look like I've replaced the water with beer. It already sinks, though.

I just soak mine in the sink for abit, the stuff I got didnt seem to be too bad though

He's an emerald something and he doesnt look like my others. ^^ They didnt have any pandas or spotted ones because they get stocked on Wednesdays. I want to go back and see what others they have over spring break on a Wednesday or Thursday.
I named the new little catfish Dexter.

Cute<3 I was just thinking of cories I also read that the emeralds weren't true cories, but I have five emeralds, even though that has nothing to do with it xD

I was thinking of getting one or two more cories in about 2-3 months, since my albino died, and I have room in my ten gallon, since I took out a house. I have to wait for a couple months though, because I had to beg my mom from the female bettas, and I promised I wouldnt get more fish for a while.

My hands are all shriveled now. >< I haven't done a tank clean in a while (I always do my water changes when needed, just haven't done an actual clean today; excluding cleaning the sand, I do that often as well). My drift wood, heater, and sides were starting to grow algae. My dwarfs seem happy, but confused because I moved around some of the decor. O3O
