Tell Us About Your Pets!: My Toads I got a few months back. They are really interesting to watch. I have taught them how to take food from feeding tongs, and they now will beg for food. The Pacman is a new addition. I got her and offered her some crickets several days later and got no response. I contacted thee seller and he said that she only eats rodents(For those who don't know, rodents are NOT a good staple for any frog). It took about a month but now she eats fuzzy mice, pinky rats, and hornworms. I am trying out Mealworms to see if that also gets a good response, but I have not picked any up yet.

And yay, another person with fire bellied toads! I have a question for you; how often do you feed your toads? I tried researching it but I got so many different responses i'm not sure which one is best for them. And you've had yours longer than i've had mine (2 weeks).

And yay, another person with fire bellied toads! I have a question for you; how often do you feed your toads? I tried researching it but I got so many different responses i'm not sure which one is best for them. And you've had yours longer than i've had mine (2 weeks).

I try to feed every other day, though I ran out of feeders early, so they are having a few day long fast. The longest I've time in between feedings that I've heard of was someone just tossing 12-15 crickets in their tanks once a week, though personally I prefer to see my toads eat to make sure that they are healthy.

I have been thinking about adding a few more to my colony(I got them and kind of expected them to be boring, as they are so cheap, but man was I wrong, they are super active and fun to watch!), I'm thinking of getting three more and having six. My tank is a 20 gallon long that is 3/4 water, which a rock slope going up to a patch of eco-earth. I need to buy the tank a filter, as changing the water every other day takes a lot of time. Just need to get to a pet store and pick up a turtle filter LOL.

I am also growing a patch of moss in a mason jar. Once it gets bigger I'm going to split it between the land area of my fire bellied toads and my Pacman frog!

I feed mine every day but with the cricket keeper I have I usually just shake in two or three tubes of them and that's enough for three frogs.
I'm thinking I should maybe not feed every day because they're getting a little fat... lol. So I think every other day would be good, I worry about during the weekends though because sometimes I'm not home for the entire weekend so they wouldn't eat for two days (or when I run low on crickets they had to wait about three days this time!)

But yeah, I read a post about this experienced amphibian keeper talking about how fire bellied toads are usually frowned upon by experienced keepers for being "beginner pets" and "not a real keeper" but he said that even as an experienced keeper he enjoys the toads cause they're so interesting to watch! And I fully agree, lol. They're funny.

I have a 10 gal and have three frogs... story on that later... but I MAY get as fourth. I heard it's best to just have three in a 10 gal but if the tank still seems open with even the three I might add another. We will see how it goes.

I have a filter that came with a "Waterfall" but the water wasn't high enough for it to work so instead I had to turn the filter sideways and use it that way instead. The filter REALLY helps though with the water, you should definitely get one!

With mine I kind of just threw together a tank for them (i'll try to take a picture one of these days) but it's basically got the water with a small container in it that I put upside-down and then put moss on top and a plant for them to hide in. It also has a reptile ramp going from the land into the water and a few rocks on land for them to sit on too.

I want to take the container out though (it makes the tank look unnatural and ugly, but it was all I could find to give them land in such short notice) so I want to get a tank divider and put it sideways and put rocks underneath it and just put the moss on top of that and have that the land and have rocks going from the land into the water as like a beach kind of thing but with rocks... Really liking that idea lol.

Meet Boo!
Got him today (pretty sure it's a him), he's pretty jumpy but that will change. (The others are used to me picking them up now cause when I clean the tank I pick them up and put them into another container... or if they're in the water during feeding time i'll pick them up and put them on land so they don't get left out.)

I named him Boo because he kept freaking out my mum (who was holding them in the car since I had to drive) and every time he would jump and try to get out of the container he would freak her out and since Halloween had just ended... Boo was his name.

He's bigger than Forrest (my other male) and I heard that fire bellies aren't territorial but i'm still going to keep an eye on him anyways. Cause right now I only have Forrest and Boo (the two males) with just Taffy (the only female) and I don't want things to get out of hand during mating season over Taffy.
