Imzadi83 wrote:^ Thanks Luzien. We did a very short training session with her this morning. She wouldn't go from the kitchen with me to the living room so I lowered the criteria and just had her go half way across the living room. She did well, considering when we first got her we tried a similar exercise and she got so confused and stressed she left the room. Today she was all wagging tail and seemed to understand that it was all fun and treats to "go get Grandma".

thats great that the Training does go well...and its not bad to step back sometimes....and its great that she is not stressed anymore:D
do you know what i find cute....the "go get grandma".... i also say when i talk with my dog that she should go to grandma( when i want her to bring something to my mom^^)....and when i talk to my mom that she should be not so nice/or more nice with her grandchild.....my mom is then always "im no grandma".... ^^ ahhh yes they are our Little Babys nehhh ;)

^ LOL, my Mom loves being "Grandma" to her grand-dog. Chloe is spoiled rotten. ;) My mom felt bad that I would leave the living room and wait for Chloe to realize I'm not coming back and get off the couch to follow me. She started picking her up and carrying her back to my room, so now if Mom is there Chloe will look at her and then sit up and stretch, waiting for Mom to pick her up and carry her back.

Hello, sorry to be a bother, I'm at my wits ends with my dog pooping/peeing in my house. He's a 2 year old stubborn rescue dog that won't toilet train. I've had him checked with a vets and they said there is nothing wrong with him to cause him to poop/pee in the house and even though I was sure I was toilet training him the correct way (putting him outside until he goes and then praising him. Putting him out when he does go inside), I checked with a dog trainer and a dog behaviorist who both agree that I'm doing all I can. But I've been toilet training for over a year now and he still poops/pees in the house at least 1 every few days during the night/day. We've had no routine changes, he's just being naughty.

I've been looking at getting him a dog wrap to stop the peeing but I wasn't really sure since I've never brought anything like this with my other dogs. I was wondering if there is some-thing that can also stop him pooping in the house. Also preferably some-thing that can be rewashed if he soils it.

Any help and I will love you forever.
Thanks :)

That doesn't sound fun.
I'd suggest crate training and umbilical cord training (have him on leash attached to you). So he's either in an area that he (hopefully) doesn't want to go to the bathroom in for nights or when you're not home. Then have him on leash and attached to you so he's supervised and you'll be better able to see his signs and take him outside.

I dog sat a friend's foster puppy and it was insanely frustrating taking care of him because he purposefully went to the bathroom inside (friend let him do his business in her house). It definitely wasn't just he didn't know better. He would be outside for an hour, pop inside, do his business and then go back outside. I wish I had known about umbilical training.

EDIT: Forgot to add some articles that could be useful.

Please dont wrap the dog up...
for a short time of Training him to be clean you can use a big dog crate to Keep him in when you are away or cant watch him for some time....and dont put him in the bathroom or shower as i did read in an dog Forum...
you ven could offer him for the beginning a adult dog toilet ....for accidents...but i would try it with the dog crate and running ... it should go faster....

that takes sometimes time!! and Patience!

i did never had a rescue dog, but other that we sometimes meet on our walks...some get it after some days other month, some seem clean but have a accident when stressed or sick...

when you go away for short time put him in a large dog crate there he will not do it.
at home you go out as soon as you are back to the place he should go toilet...when he does not Need and you have time go for a walk or run...and tell him at places where he can go to go...
you Need to stay at his Training...you cant let him out thee times a day ....it will be much more in the first days or weeks...

at first you may Need to go every hour, he Needs to be in the same room so you see when he gets a bit nervous or Looks around for a place to go.....then run as fast as possible outside and tell to go....

the dog of my parents had the Problem that she is very silent when she Needs to go outside...she walks to the door Looks around jumps on place runs around nervously and when nobody is there and she really cant hold it she goes toilet...we did Train her when she was a puppy with the crate and only one room she could stay in till she was bether..she got it in one week....now she run around and tapps whoever is there with a paw or nose...and when we leave for more than 2 hours she goes in her sleeping crate or goes with my dad and stays in his car when not to cold or hot...

a dog bell is also great...you can teach him with a crate or without....to tuch the bell with paw or nose and then you run outside with him...there are also strings with bells on it to put on the door that the dog can push....

but you Need to go every hour at first, at the slightest sign that he Looks at the door or Looks for a place...and while you run out the door you shout happily "good Boy lets go potty" or something like this, thats also like a mix between praise and Play for him, and then tell to go toilet...
you Need times to go....the first Thing you do after wake up...run out open crate take dog and run out with him with the words i did write above....and the last Thing bevor going to bed...and when the crate is in the first weeks neer your bed or where you can hear him wwhimper ist even bether....you may must start like with a puppy...
be Patient, always calm, dont get angry...and when not in front of dog... it will get bether when he learns that he gets help going out, that he can go to you or ring bell when needing the toilet....
dont worry ist only in the beginning that you Need to run every hour, maybe Keep the dog on a leashe neer you for first days, that he cant go out of your view...
later it will be two hours -three- four...but you Need to give him the workout each day 2-3times...and dont think in the first days...aww i dont wanna go out he can stay two hours more...constant work on a Problem....

also a good help can be...a loooooong walk-run-Play in the morning with lots of stopps and "go toilet's
...midday...afternoon....(each 1 hour atleast)

one guy did Train his dog with a crate, lots of warm water-meat (2-3l) when the dog did not want to go outside...he did offer the dog every 1/4 hour to go out pee and poo at the first days and the dog did learn to bark when he did want out...and was house trained after a week...but he also did go on 3 long walk-runs each day. with some more between at the beginning.

ohh...and when you see him doing his Business...cry "NO" scoope him up while doing it and sitting him outside....dont worry you can clean up anything and when you get some pee on you clothing wash them, but he learns that he Needs to do it outtside and that you dont let him do it in the house, dont be angry but praise him when he finishes his Business outside ...or even when he only stands in the grass .....no hitting shouting ....but when you are fast and see how he putts his behind down to do his Business in the house you could trow something on the ground, scoope him up and run outside telling him to go toilet....with the Little fright and the gentle words after he sees that you only wanted to bring him outside but had Trouble Holding whatever you did trow to the ground...so ist not really a punishment but only a owner who is a bit clumsy in his eyes...and you also do it with puppys...^^
scoope up or pull out when big dog as fast as possible and crazy happiness over every drop of pee outside^^ thats dog owners for you...i think we are the only who are happy and tell there"baby" how "nice toilet ya did go"

not sure if you did understand what i did mean, or if this helps at all...you can tell when not, i try to do bether :D

Thanks for the suggestions.
I used to have a crate for him but it made no difference. We recently threw our crate out because for 1 it stunk real bad and 2 it just got in the way. He wasn't a fan of his crate either.
I have done umbilical cord training with him but it just tends to wind him up because he thinks he's going out, he makes an awful screeching sound the neighbors don't like and just won't settle down. He doesn't pee/poop inside when he's on that but I'm the only one that will do it with him, my family won't go to such lengths to do that with him unfortunately. (Mum doesn't like him under her feet which he tends to do on or of lead anyway.)

That seems to be exactly what my dog does. He will go outside, come in, poop then go back out. It's a pest. His old foster owners used puppy pads inside the house to encourage him to toilet train, I believe this caused most of the problems we are having now. We know the areas that he usually goes and have banished him from going into them (going upstairs).

It tends to be more when we are not there that he pee's/poops. He had major separation anxiety when we got him but we fixed that. I put up camera's to monitor him when we were out and he doesn't look at all anxious. He play with the other dogs, sleeps then just gets up and poops/pees for no reason then goes back to sleep. It's incredibly frustrating.

Hi, thanks for you reply. :)
We exhausted the crate idea the fist few months we had him. It was just making him get messy when he was in there.
We always let doggies out 1st thing in the morning and when we get home to go to the loo, that's no problem. We also do 1st thing before bed or whenever we go out. Most of the time some-one gets up in the night and lets them out but he still goes in the night even when we do this. (It's rare we don't get up in the night for him.)

We've been doing exactly that for the entire time we've had him. He seems to start learning and goes completely clean for a few weeks and then he goes back to his old ways again.

I'm literally desperate, my mums ready to give him up because of this. I honestly don't think there is any more training steps I can take other than what I am doing, honestly, you won't believe the amount of times I've asked my trainer and been online looking for other solutions/better solutions to this problem and everyone says the same things. "Keep putting him outside, stick him in a crate, correct him by putting him out when you see him go, watch him 24/7, keep him on a lead.

Sorry, I sound like I am ranting. You won't believe how much trouble this dog has caused and I just go round in circles doing the same thing with him over and over again. It gets a little frustrating because out of all the other dogs I've owned/trained/worked with, he is the only one that can't toilet train.
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

thats not easy...maybe acupuncture and a really good chiropractor or psychologist for Dogs can help.
i know that some Thing a vet does not find...but then you co to a chiro, or psychologist can find...maybe crazy but could help.

may i ask some questions?

ws he an outide dog with his old owner???

what does he gets to eat...a mix of kibbles and meat, only kibbles or barffing?
bones each day or every week? something from pig?
new Food
new are
new neighbour
maybe a dog electronic dog fence...some ultrasound things to Keep away pests?
New flower-plants-grass in the garden?
When he did stop doing it...can you think what could have happened that he started again? maybe something that scared him and he did fear to go in the backyard....?
Does he go outside on a meadow you find when Walking him, away from your home when he does not do it directly near your home?

Long run bring the Body active and they go fast to toilet, so maybe try to let him run on the bike for one to two hours...

not sure if you did read this sites already^^

try to put up a camera to see what he does-why -when- and how---then you maybe find out the Problem and can try to work with it.
And a last question...
does he do it too, when he is somewhere else with you alone, with one of the Family members that life with you two...,...or with someone else...like when he is at the house of a friend of you or your Family friend, or animal sitter without you or you Family...?

I could look into it, but I imagine it being rather expensive. I already spent like £1000 on trying to find out if he bowl/leg problems only to find out from experts there was nothing wrong. I don't really have money to spend on that right now unfortunately.

Sure :)

Honestly I don't really know much about his old owners because the rescue seemed to just make stuff up. But apparently he was living with two people that were neglecting him, I get the impression he was living in a house of junk because he tries to sleep on plastic bags and in trash, and wasn't ever taken out from walks. He was taken from his old owners and went into several foster homes. He wasn't fixed when I got him and the main problem was that they couldn't toilet train him. We got him fixed and the spraying in the house stopped pretty quickly.

He eats a Wafcol dry sensitive. No tin food. I add water into it and soak it a little because he chokes on it if not. He occasionally gets veg/meat left overs on it (If it's dog safe). And for training I tend to use his dog food dry (I train at meal time) when at home or random dog treats at dog training (but not too many). He's only fed once a day, mum doesn't like 2x a day feeding.
They get bones on really rare occasions. I'm not allowed to BARF feed him.
His poop is usually solid and healthy.

We don't have any new neighbors/people in the are. My garden is fenced in with a wooden fence so he can't see out. We have a cat so I can't really put up anything to keep cats away, but I never see cats in our garden other than ours. I don't believe we have any other pests in the are. There are no strays.

Mum does gardening but it doesn't seem to bother him other than when he decides to dig them up haha. My garden is a bit boggy but he has no problems going in the garden as it seems.

There's nothing to make him start going inside again. Nothing changes. I exercised that idea for a while and tried to come up with some-thing but couldn't think anything up. I thought the wind maybe because he doesn't like the wind or rain (not scared of it, just doesn't like it) but during summer when it wasn't windy or wet he just started again.
When he goes out on walks, he poops anywhere. He will usually poop shortly at the start of the walk but he's not fussy where he poops lol.

I used to take him our on two hour hikes because he has a lot of energy. It made no difference. I found that it was making him hyperactive in the house. He gets so hyper up when we walk him, I would bring him home and he runs around like a nutter. He goes out on two hour walks now (am and pm), it doesn't change his energy levels.

A behaviorist suggested it was my other dogs that could cause the issues but she ruled that out after.

I know it's hard to believe, but I seriously think the issues is my dog is just beyond a stubborn pain. Honestly, I'm not new to dogs, been training dogs since I was 11, I work with dogs and I am an expert in dog psychology. My dogs just naughty haha.
