    ----------

    Fun little event happened at the park a few days ago... -.-

    I was just on our evening walk to the park, maybe do a bit of training. I noticed Kora was looking at the sky quite a bit, I just figured a plane was flying by or something, but then I heard a distant buzzing sound. This kid that lived around the park had one of those remote controlled drones, with what I think must have a camera on it, and of course, Kora was nervous, as the thing was only 10 feet above her head, and buzzing very loudly. This is the dog that is stressed out by the vacuum and likes to eat bugs flying around her. So I try to run out of the park to avoid the drone (and of course this guy is laughing his head off, like it's the funniest thing he's seen all week) and Kora nearly pulls me over, just trying to get away. At this point, I had lost my flip flop and was a block or two away from the park with that stupid thing following me and scaring poor Kora! I didn't go back for my shoe, as I'd probably just get laughed at and chased again, so I went home, dropped her off and went back to get it when the kid wasn't outside.
    Honestly, if some people have nothing better to do then pester people and scare their dogs, that's quite sad, in my opinion.

    (whew, needed to get that off my chest! sorry about that mini rant! >.<)

Thanks :)

Oh no, poor Kora. People can be so horrible :(

Okay, I'm finally going to say this cause it's ticked me off for so long

It's quite annoying people rarely respond to my posts, yet when a more popular person on the thread posts 1-3 people will reply to them. If it was only happening to me I wouldn't complain (maybe get slightly ticked off but I wouldn't say anything about it) but I've seen this happen to other people as well.
In regards to my last post, not everyone know's about flyball so I understand why people won't respond to that, but one of you guys have to know something about how to get a dog to focus better during training!

I'm not sure if anyone has addressed this before, as I don't visit here often (due to the above reason) however this problem existed in the previous thread too.
Hey sorry I haven't been on. Busy lately, I don't use my computer much anymore anyways

Princess had the same thing, what I did was distract her with treats and said "ignore" it took awhile for her to grasp the word, but she finally got it.

Try doing that, that's how I got her attention away from cats and other dogs.
She still growls at other dogs but once I say "princess, ignore " she stops and keeps on walking like she never saw the dog/object.
If that doesn't help I really don't know what to tell you. Just remember patience is the key.

I have no idea, but if it is then I guess it's good for Tally cause thats how she lies down naturally (by naturally I mean normally she'll lay like that, but if I give her the command 'lie down' she lays with her back paws under her)

Anyone do fly ball? I want to start training Tally it incase I find the time to enroll her in that (sense apparently Jack Russell are wanted for fly ball cause of their size and speed) and I wanted to know what I could work on before I can get a flybox (or something that'll replicate a flybox for now)

Also, does anyone have any tips on how to get dogs to focus during training? I've tried using different treats and toys (though usually she doesn't respond well to toys) our training sessions are already short (Usually around three mins) because she'll stop listening after five minutes

Before you get a box, you can easily train your dog how to launch with some plywood. :) Then, once you get a box, your dog should be able to figure out the launching and turning part at least. Here's a video I have found useful for this:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1w23KWpMCg8
Obviously, you won't need to actually go as far as to have your dog launch off just a wall. You can just stick with the plywood, using it as a pretend flybox and keeping the angle so its very similar to the box. :)

With training, since your dog seems to not really respond to treats or toys, you may just have to bring your dog to a less distracting area. Where do you usually train her? It also helps if you can make the dog think that training is part of a super fun game. And what kind of treats are you training with?

@Hazza;- your basset is very adorable! :)

That's a good idea to use plywood in the meantime :) Cause I have a feeling it'll be a little while till I can acquire a flybox. I also need to get jumps, but that's a different story (I'm 90% sure I'll be making them)
Right after I posted previously I started to teach her to go around a cone, because that's the first step of teaching a canine to launch off the box. Tally seemed to pick it up quickly, which is great!
She can be rather stubborn at times, and if she decides she doesn't want to learn something she'll refuse to do it, even if it's a easy trick. (Some examples of tricks she refuses to learn is roll over, take it, crawl, ring the bell, and back up.) But if she likes the trick she'll learn it very quickly

Usually I train her in the backyard, but if the neighbor kids are playing in their backyard, if their dog is in their backyard, or if there are birds/squirrels/etc. in the trees I will train her in the living room.

I should of explained my problem better, it's not like she hears something and immediately runs off, if the training session gets too long she decides she doesn't want to learn anymore and will just ignore me. Tally doesn't even get distracted by something she'll just sit there and do nothing. Because of this our training sessions are just 3-5 mins long, but I'd like to make them 5-10 eventually.
However, I noticed while training 'around' she didn't start to show signs that she was losing interest when she usually does*, so it makes me wonder if she was just bored of the same tricks :/

Zuke Training treats at the moment, I used to use cheese which she did well with, but then she started to become fat so I stopped. Plus I now realize it probably wasn't really healthy to give her (cause of the dairy)

*When I see the first sign of her losing interest that's when I finish the training session, so usually our training sessions are 3-5 mins, though our last one was around 7 ish mins

@Imzadi83
Thank you for replying.
Toys have little value for Epic besides a five minute game of tug. And we've tried different variations of view blocking and attempts at redirecting her, but she ends up very frustrated.
Thank you again though.

@Cardinal
Thanks for your reply.
I never heard or thought about that. We'll be trying that out!
Thank you.

@Haagen-Daagen
That puppy looks exactly like one of the strays who wandered up here some months ago! Though this was a boy and about five months old.

@fascai
Congrats!
Opie's so cute! So you guys are partnered with two business now correct? So exciting!

@darkvoodoo
Mugger's such a big boy now! He's killing me with that face.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Epic's recall is going down hill. She plays with Honey every morning, and Honey's owner is very...I don't know how to put it...scared?
His last dog was allowed to wander around as it pleased, and ended up getting hit, and it was pretty insane with the circumstances. She was a giant yellow dog and the 'road' was a turn around driveway that you couldn't go anywhere near fast on.
Anyways, he's constantly calling Honey back (not that she listens), so he's whistling and everything, so Epic keeps coming back because she thinks he's calling her (and sometimes he does).
So now, she's so used to hearing this guy calling all the time, she doesn't always come when she's actually being called. It's just frustrating because she was doing so well, and now it's slowly going backwards.

Now I'm trying to come up with a unique cue for recall so I can retrain her.

Yay, always something else to work on.

Hello it is I who never posts. Life has been very very busy for me. So. Much. Training. So. Much. Working. I now do Board & Trains, Daycare & Trains, help with reactive dog classes, help with basic obedience classes, help with puppy class, and teach agility classes on rare occasions ;w; as well as working my normal 5 days a week 8 hour shift job. Then taking care of Charlie and Lucy and trying to find time to have a social life and visit my lovely girlfriend. >>

But yeah, the recall thing sucks. A recall word I really thought was cute that someone used for a dog I was doing a board and train was "Lightning!" because the dogs name was Thunder. A friend of mine thought the Charlie Sheen "winning" rant was funny so her border collies recall word is "Winning!" The great thing about teaching commands is that you can use any word you want as long as you remember it! My future German Shepherd puppy is going to be taught exclusively in french because I /loathe/ when other people give Charlie commands and screw up his training. Especially random strangers. The french word for "come" is "Ici" ("e see") I like it because it's fast and since I took french for 12 years throughout my years in school it comes very naturally and easy for me to say :)
Throw those hooves right over my shoulders
Cause I seen the way you look at me, doefriend, when you smoulder
Come here, queer deer, and shake that thing around
Cause you get me so high that I gotta go down

Millie isn't liking not being able to run around and to be honest so am I, I miss taking her on long walks and throwing the ball for he, and she can't play in the house just in case, I just wish she was all healed straight away. Also she has like a hyper moment once the pain killers kick in where she wants to go on a walk and play but we have to take it slow so not to re open the wound, not fun. I've decided not to post many photos of her since she limps all the time and the camera might catch her scar which is pretty nasty.

Anyway I pretty much become Lexi's trainer, since no one else will and let's just say she's not the brightest button in the box. I've trained her to sit, to come and I'm training her to lie down. But we have two other problems with her, she barks and chases trucks, whether it be the post van, an ordinary van, a lorry if she got the chance, or a jeep with a back she will chase it and she almost got herself killed twice, by almost going under the wheel while they were moving, and being so little the driver has no idea. Also she barks at the window by jumping up on 'the dog chair' and that's just annoying, and today while Millie was sitting on 'the dog chair' nursing her paw, Lexi pretty much jumped on top of her and there was some growling from both of them. Any idea's on what to do?
