Welllll... Puppies are due tomorrow. I guess today, technically. Of course, a young adult male became available yesterday. He's basically my dream dog. I decided to ask about him. Collie Lady says he could be a really great match for me. We talked and agreed that I have nothing to lose by meeting him. If he doesn't work out, I am still in line for a puppy, and if he does, then I get the dog I had originally wanted! I was looking for a young adult male dog, and my dream dog is a male tricolor smooth collie. This dog is exactly that. He has basic obedience training, is show trained, socialized, crate trained, and is three points away from his Championship. I was prepared for a puppy, and to be honest, I would love to experience puppyhood with my dog. I haven't done that before. But my priority is to get the right dog. If I pass him up and he ended up being a good fit, who knows if one of the puppies from this litter would be the perfect dog? I could end up messing up a puppy by under socializing it or something, I don't know.
I'm both excited and disappointed. I just need to see how it goes before I get worked up, though.

Apologies for the crappyness of the photo, all I have is a tablet at the moment.
Today is the first day of Archie sitting.
Archie is a six year old male JRT with fear aggression towards people, dogs and things like brooms and mops.
He's a resource guarder, obsessed with rocks and his chuckit ball to the point that they're not allowed in the house.

It will probably need some getting used to, I was told to body block people to keep them from petting him because they always try and will even ignore the big and loud signs to back off.
This will be interesting though as I'll have to really pay attention to his body language.

Epic will be taken care of during the day by my sister, but I'll still be feeding, exercising and training her, I just won't be able to give her quite as much attention.
The new long leash is working out great, I wish we had one sooner. I'm thinking of also using it for Archie to help fine tune his recall.

@Fairytale AHHHH excited for your puppy/ dog!!! But what I think is that you should definitely meet this dog with the mindset that he might not be the one. Try seeing if he will come to you and how he acts towards you etc. If he seems interested and really likes to be with you etc. without you forcing him, then he might be the one. If not puppies are always great. The second you get the puppies shots make sure he is around lots of people, different animals and spend a lot of time with you and then start training asap. :) I hope all goes well and you figure out the right dog for you!

Thank you! I am visiting him on Monday or Tuesday. I've asked to see him both in his home environment and in public. Beaker will be meeting him as well. I know a slightly older dog will fit my needs better, but I was starting to look forward to having a puppy (something I never thought I would say), lol. Although it is still very likely I will end up with a pup. We shall see. I'm just super paranoid I would mess up a puppy in some way. But then it's also like, plenty of people do things that could "mess up" a puppy and still end up with incredible dogs, and I am better prepared than they are.

Well good luck! I am sure you will make the right decision. And it is all based of of the pup's personality. Izzy was abused and left out on the street before I ever had her. She really didn't have that much socialization and I got her around 6 months old and she is a wonderful dog!! She is the least aggressive dog I have ever met in my life and she has no issue's minus being a little skittish around some things. Like you said there are some people who are not prepared for a puppy and the dog comes out fine. So I believe your puppy will turn out great :)

my aunt's rat terrier had puppies (mixes - oops litter) and she offered me one. I of course already had opie so I declined the offer, but my boyfriend's mom decided she'd take it (I live with them, so this brings the dog count to two). well we rode to pick her up today. she's cute and all, but I personally dislike little dogs so not my cup of tea. I'm a little annoyed though so I hope it's alright I go off on a rant for a minute.

opie doesn't understand he's too big to play with her. he just wants to glomp around and play and have fun with the little baby. everyone is too caught up in the puppy breath and little paws to pay any attention to ope and it just kinda bothers me. he's just curious like everyone else. I know I have to keep an eye on him around her and I'm doing that, there isn't any reason to yell at him for sniffing her. ugh. he was here first. sure, she's cute but that doesn't mean opie doesn't exist anymore. he's still just as new to this family as maggie (the new pup) is. it just bothers me everyone seems to forget how cute they thought ope was and etc now that she's here. he's gotten yelled at a lot since she's been here and it's over small, dumb things like trying to play with her.

I don't know how to really explain the situation. it's just frustrating for me.

I don't know where this rant is going so that's all.

edit- bought opie a kong. he loves it! he's been pushing it around the kitchen all night trying to get pieces of chicken out of it. hopefully taking him back to the dog park tomorrow, too. it's been raining all week so my promise keeps falling through. :(
