Well, if she's really scared of the car, you should get the shirt now and start counterconditioning her to the shirt and to the car now. Won't be fair to her to wait.

Mum (and me, too) don't really "believe", for lack of better words, in boarding. Piper is a dog that likes to be around people almost 24/7, and it would probably be more stressful for her to be boarded than it would to go on the roadtrip for us.
It's also extremely difficult to find somebody willing to stay at our house and babysit all the animals when we are away. Most people don't mind stopping by and stuff, which would be fine with the cat and other animals, but with Piper.. like I said, she needs to be around people or she gets upset.
