Without knowing the water parameters how do you know it's cycled?

Tanks don't cycle on their own. You would need to know the parameters to know if it's cycled.

I don't know why he died, but It is possible that he was a marble.
Did he change color like this in the past?

Did he change color like this in the past?
He never changed color, he had a bit of red and white in his tail, but he was always black, so it was definitely a weird experience.
