I managed to snap a picture. It's really gross.

And it looks like a severe case of Ich to me, but I suggest asking someone else just to be sure. ^_^

The long story: I've had four fish in a tiny thirteen gallon tank for about a year. We were moving, and we were not going to put a pond in at the new place, so I caught my favorites from ours to put in an aquarium. The thirteen gallon was only supposed to be temporary until we moved. A year later, we've finally moved.
My parents went to Petsmart without me because I had an appointment. Came home to find a 37 gallon Marineland with a stand. Checked out the seals and it looked fine. Started filling it up over the course of a few days to watch for leaks, and noticed that the little plastic thing in the middle of the top was broken. None of us have ever owned a tank this large, so we had no idea what, or how important, it was. The tank is currently about 3/4 full, and the center brace has a gap of about 1/4-1/2 inch (1cm for those using the civilized system c:) right in the middle.
Is it worth trying to repair it? Should I call the manufacturer? Should I take it back and return/exchange it? (It was the only one of this tank they had left; they're apparently discontinuing it?) And from what I've read most repairs never hold and shouldn't be trusted? I'm honestly really worried about it because the reviews I read said the seals on these tanks have a tendency to give anyway. I really don't want to wake up to 37 gallons of water on the floor and dead fish. ;-;
We did put in a pond at the new place, so worse comes to worse I can put them in the pond here and hope they can survive the temperature change.
Sorry for the long (and somewhat tangential) post, I'm just really anxious about all of this.
Hime wrote:Basically if it was already broken when you got, then you could return it and ask for new one. Has the brace snapped in half from the middle and then there's a gap between the halfs? You could try empty out the tank and see if the gap closes. If it does I'd be maybe little conserned if the tank will hold out in general...
Buuut, from what I've read certain tanks are prone to have their middle brace broken/bended and at least with those tanks it doesn't really seem to matter. 37 gal is not that big and if the brace is just plastic, then it probably isn't that strong anyway.
