We got a random assortment of plants for lady betta's new tank. Ended up with some of this which is a really lovely pink on the bottom of the leaves but we have no idea what it is : D Anyone happen to know? All individual stems.
We'll probably kill it.

Hello fellow fish people. I don't think I've posted in the fishy thread for ages. lol Right now I have a 20 gallon with guppies, platys, swordtails and endler's livebearers... but I am downsizing to a 5.5 gallon and getting a betta fish instead. I've had the tank up for about 2 years, but It's taking up a too much space in my room... taking away from my guinea pigs area. lol I just ordered a halfmoon butterfly betta. It's been a while since I've had a betta actually. Trying to read up on them again. lol Any special advice?

Make sure you get a heater (78-82 degrees), cycle the tank before you get the fish (if you haven't already), lots of plants (silk and/or live), and high quality pellet food + frozen or live treats if you can. If you have specific questions I can probably answer any of them c:

Any plant recommendations for my 10g neon tank (soon to house a dwarf gourami when I have money)? It currently has java fern, vallisneria spiralis, moss balls and an Anubias plant. It did had hygrophila but I'm asking for recommendations to replace it as I recently condemned it having being taken over by snails.

As for an update on the cycling of my tank (that I used the kit for but it didn't work D:) the ammonia went down to 0.1mg/l before I ran out of tablets, but the nitrite started rising which I know is part of the cycle. Last time I checked (a couple days ago) nitrite was going down too, so I'm going to check again tomorrow. I've been doing 25-50% water changes every other day-every few days. Ich is all clear now and all the fish seem happy and healthy <3

I've been watching Sōsuke swim around, and I've noticed that his fins are larger and more extended out than a VT Betta usually is. I'm starting to wonder if he's a different type of Betta or he just has larger fins for a VT! Lol! Also, he has more colors than what I could capture, he doesn't like my phone camera -- lol! Anyone want to help me clarify? Thanks! :)

I'm starting to wonder if he's a different type of Betta or he just has larger fins for a VT! Lol! Also, he has more colors than what I could capture, he doesn't like my phone camera -- lol! I'd put my guess on a very badly bred crowntail. Probably vt x ct which always ends up with a mess like that. Of course as a pet betta there's nothing wrong with that, he's just different c: I'm going off the shape of the caudal fin which has a downward swoop like a vt and the shape of the anal fin + messy extended rays which show his ct side.

I was guessing that he had a bit of CT in him, but I was never sure. Considering I got him from PetSmart (I know, shame on me. I felt bad for the poor baby), I'm not surprised that he's mixed! Ah well, I love him just the way he is, he's very smart! Any second opinions? :)
