The tank is the National Geographic 2.5 Gallon Halfmoon Betta Oasis, and it has a very large filter for it's size. I placed part of a sponge filter inside by the output and it no longer stirs the water. Daniel had no problem swimming near the output and wasn't pushed around, but yet Thymes seems like he's being completely swept up by it.

As for why he used to be lethargic, Thymes had remained in the store in his little unheated cup in cold weather for a pretty long time, so he had grown lethargic from cold temperatures. After being moved to the 2.5 (Which has a heater) he's quickly recovered.

Are you sure it's not the intake causing the problem rather than the outtake?

I'm sure, Thymes only has trouble when swimming near the output, I've watched him be swept up by it every time he swims near

This is just something I remember one long time betta owner say. She said that if bettas are kept in very small space(like a cup in this case), when they first are put in a bigger space and with little more current it will first appear like they can't swim properly and even seem to strugle. But it's because they haven't developed the proper muscles and strenght to swim in their previous setting. So in time the problem should fix up on it's own.
Obviously I don't know if that's the issue is this case, or just the usual too big fins, but seeing Thymes spend long time in a cup, it could be possible...
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...

woot woot! finally was able to purchase a 10 gallon aquarium upgrade for my girls after their previous one broke OTL they were stuck in a 5 gallon WAYYYYY to long, felt so bad. they now have a bubbly wall (modified so its not to powerful) and they absolutely love, wont leave it alone haha. now i've been planning to add a ton of live plants, one issue though, they are so darn expensive in canada! i found this guy on aquabid who has awesome deals on plant bundles, but he can't ship to canada OTL. Looks like ill be breaking out the visa gift card, lol.

Whoop! I am signing a lease for an apartment tomorrow, my boyfriend and I are planning on getting two really cool betta tanks that we are going to put bettas in. On top of Spike, Flynn, and Delta, we will be adding five new bettas, as well as a few that my cousin wants to get too. I am absolutely in love with bettas and to know that I can expand the amount I can get is absolutely thrilling to me. We've also talked bout creating a sorority of bettas, has anyone done this before?

hey there! thats awesome about the bettas! Now, i know you currently have them in little half gallon cubes correct? I do suggest, if you are planning on getting that many bettas that maybe getting a large tank and dividing it into sections would be a lot healthier for all of the fish. The minimum for a betta would be that of 2.5 gallons, (with heater and filter) to have your fish thrive! Now i know some people don't have the space for that and that's fine too, but if you are considering that many fish, and i don't want to sound rude, but if you are, i would like you to think about the quality of life you could provide to that many fish. Will you have time to keep up on all the water changes, and maintenance that comes with small tanks, it's a lot of work and dedication. (odd for a pet that's considered "beginner") Just some food for thought!

As for betta sorority, i have an awesome one going right now, as mentioned in the post above <3 now this is a rule that MUST be followed with all sororities, an absolute MINIMUM nothing less than 10 gallons, the only reason i had mine in a five was due to a tank malfunction. when setting up a sorority, it should be heavily planted with plenty of hiding places so that females can get away from each other when things get a little rough and tumble. I suggest when purchasing females, get ALL of them at the same times, makes it so there is a set pecking order and a new addition would be bullied on. In a ten gallon i would suggest, if doing only female bettas, and nothing else, about 5-7 of them, you need a minimum of five to spread out aggression.
Anywho! good luck on your fish keeping!

Woo our lady betta is getting an upgrade. The tank she has doesn't have a light and we can't find one small enough to fit inside it. It can't clip on top either because there's things stacked on the lid to stop the cat going fishing/falling in.
So clearly the best solution is to just get another, bigger tank 8D She'll be moving to a lovely 6 gallon with a proper hood and a light. Going to be getting her loads of plants too.
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night

Yes, the three we have now are in half gallon cubes and doing extremely well. The two other tanks we plan to get already have filters and are split, so they are all set. My boyfriend and I both love the dedication of changing water, so it's definitely not a problem for us! Thanks for the info on the sorority! I'm going to watch the video you posted as soon as I get the chance! We do already have a ten gallon tank for them, just none of us have set up one before so thank you so much for the advice! :)
