How many gallons is your tank?: One Gallon
Number and Type of fish in tank: One Betta Fish
How long has it been running?: About two weeks
Did you cycle it?: no ;-;
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels?: No idea
What is the issue or question?: My betta fish, Nebula has been just floating on top of the tank and hiding behind his smoll filter, even behind it. When I go to see if he's living he quickly swims away in a panicy motion. Even when I'm not right by the tank he starts to swim around in circles quickly and bangs into stuff.
Any other information?: Please be nice, this is my first time owning a betta fish. ;o;

When you say that your betta is floating at the top of the tank, do you mean that he has trouble swimming to the bottom, or do you mean that he is choosing to be near the top ?
Does he have any caves or plants ?
Have you noticed anything else happening with him recently ?
How much do you feed him ?
How often do you change his water and how much do you change ?
Does he have a heater ?
Sorry if this is a lot of questions, but it would be easier for us if we knew a bit more about the situation

Just a tiny little pinch of food in the afternoon.
I haven't had him for very long but I just changed the water today. I was hoping to change the water ever month and I would do a full 100% water change.

Okay, I'll try what you recommended to help the cycle.

Should I isolate the two fish that are always alone? And if so for how long? The only concern I have with this though is that I have no quarantine tank and can't really afford another set up at this moment in time.

As for extra info, if it helps, the one that is mostly alone is extremely small compared to the others, and his blue streak isn't as bright from what I can see. There is another tetra hanging next to it now, but it is larger and It's stripe is brighter.

I don't recommend changing all the water because the sudden ammonia spikes might be a bit too much for your betta. I like to change 10% of the water in my tank every week.

Also I know this probably isn't why but bettas like to hang around filters because of the bubbles a lot of the time <3

if he's having trouble swimming then I'm afraid this as far as I can help, I'm not an expert when it comes to bettas and I don't want to give you incorrect medical advice, your best bet would be to look for someone more experienced
I would also advise a cave for your betta, bettas love hiding ! I personally have this cute little barrel cave which my betta has grown very fond of ^^
Also, the plant is silk/fabric right ? I personally made the mistake of having plastic plants in my tank and it didn't go well for my little Dan
Do you feed your betta pellets or flakes ? I do pellets and I feed my betta 3-4 pellets everyday, typically 2 in the morning and 1 or 2 at night (except on water changing days, I give him bloodworms then)
I asked this because what you described did reminded me of betta back when he was recovering from overfeeding a while ago, I had been over at a friend's house and had left someone else to feed Dan and they had given him way too many pellets, and while he was recovering he would typically hide in the back of his tank, resting on the leaves of one of his plants
I would also advise you change your water more often, a one gallon requires a lot more maintenance as the water will get dirty much quicker, I have a 2.5 gallon and I do a 50% water change every week, and honestly I should probably be doing it more than that ^^' (especially right now, since like I said I used to have plastic plants in Dan's tank, and now his fins need to recover)
also 100% water changes can really stress bettas out in multiple ways

Alright ! (^‿^✿) Just keep an eye on that swimming problem then, if you feel like your betta has a certain condition, I would advise confirming with someone who's experienced with bettas because you don't want to treat a betta for something it doesn't have

A tank that small needs water changes ever other day.
Also you may want to do pellets morning and night only two or three twice a day.
Also he could be cold bettas need warm water between 78 and 82 that's why a large tank, filter and heater is recommended for beginners as a small tank is to much work.
