I've heard nothing but bad about weekend/holiday foods. They dissolve constantly and apparantly don't even have that much actual food in them, so they just make lot of mess. If you think it this way, that everytime you feed fish there is mini nitrite spike, and even the bacteria will take care of it in a instant it's still there. A block of food which slowly breaks a part and fish may or may not eat it, constant nitrite for the bacteria to eat. Or at least that's the way it's been explained to me.
Seriously adult fish will do just fine without being fed for week. c:
Automatic feeder might be a better solution than a block, if you absolutely want to have your fish fed. Or asking someone to feed them for you(portion out each meal to avoid over feeding!).

Fish can go up to two weeks without food and that is always the recommended option over any sort of feeding block. Less food = less poop. Less poop = cleaner water. If you're not there to do water changes the water conditions will go downhill and you may end up with a crashed cycle and possibly dead/sick fish.

Thank you Hime and PeachFuzz ^-^

When I go back I am only there to check on them, so should I not put more food in for the following week?

Charlie died. I have no idea what he died of. Probably age. He had been noticeably just not really swimming around, but I was only looking on occasion, my thought was he was just relaxing. I walked in one day and he was dead.
It was either age or my boyfriend fed him differently than I did. We think that the adjustment in feeding could have done it as well.
I'm going to try and get an orange betta for next semester. They are super pretty.

Yeah, no need to feed them.

How old was he or how long have you had him (if you don't know his exact age)? That will give a clue to if it was old age.

I had him for about four months. But I know they can range anywhere from 6 months to a couple years in pet stores depending on the store.

I have yet to hear of or visit a shop that sells year old bettas. Six months is about the max. Average is 2-4 months in most shops. Even so, average betta lifespan is 3-4 years. It sounds like something else was going on with him, not old age related. Can you provide the following:
Tank size
Water parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH)
Water change schedule
How long tank has been set up
Is it cycled
Tankmates (if any)
Food and feeding schedule

It has occurred to me that I never filled in a form

Username: *BlueWolf*
How many fish tanks do you have: 1 hopefully 2 in the new year
Types of fish that you have: I currently have no fish but I am hoping to get some mollies and guppies and in another tank, a betta
Your fishs' names: Since I haven't got any at the moment I'll let you know my last fish's names: Tango, Ember, Puppy (long story), Arnie (The meanest tetra ever)
How long have you had fish: I had fish for many years then put my tank away after all my fish passed away, now I am just waiting to get my water tested for everything.
trust the power beneath you

I'm starting a fish business and I need to come up with a clever name for it, something that is easy on the eye, and easy to say. Hopefully that has something to do with fish, but if I can't come up with anything maybe something else.

Anybody like to help me?

Nevermind, I finally thought of something :)
