If you're using cheap fish to cycle, there may be casualties, just letting you know. They add ammonia and jumpstart the cycle, but also have to live in less than ideal ammonia levels while it gets established. Don't get too attached.
I love the fish, ESPECIALLY bettas. Trade me!
I was gone for a couple months, so I'm trying to catch back up on the pets from Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and the month pets during that time.

25% water change a day should be fine.

Do you have a filter in the tank? If not, either add one or set up an airstone because medications and salt cause oxygen depletion in the water.

Does the tank have a light? If it does, keep it on all day (turn it off at night so fish can rest) - darkness encourages fungal growth. Or if you have a desk/gooseneck lamp you can position that over the tank.

The salt *might* work. Depends on the type of fungus, some are more resilient than others.

Yes, I've got a filter and a light, I'll do that.

How much salt per day for a 5 g?
I used to be sugar pixel .

Getting some to cycle my new tank (my first tank!) but they won't be able to stay in the big tank after its cycled. So wondering what I'd need to keep them.

At a push you could keep a trio of male guppies in a 5 gallon tank, ideally 10 gallons. But guppies can be quite sickly depending on the source and wouldn't be best to cycle a tank. There's also a slight risk of them fighting and not being able to stay together. Can't you do it the long way? : D

Honestly there are working live bacteria products out there, that kick start the cycle in matter of some hours/a day. So no need to buy fish, that will just suffer from the ammonia and nitrite and possibly die because of that, just to get a tank cycled faster. c:
No, the bacteria products aren't bombproof but personally I've heard more good than bad of them, even though I failed to start my tank with them.

Hime, the only one I know that works well is Tetra Safe Start, nearly all of the other contain a land based nitrifying bacteria which dies off and crashes your tank. :x Its much easier and healthier to skip cycling with plants or do a fishless cycle.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Yeah that one works(as long as it doesn't get too cold), also Prodibios Biodigest/Start Up works. JBL's product I've heard someone succesfully use to cycle their tank, but honestly as most people around the local fish forum recommend and use Prodibio, not many other products get tested. XD

Just curious, could you get some water from an established tank and add it to the un-established tank? Would it make it cycle faster?

Most likely! Water from an established tank, gravel, decorations, a used filter bad/pad, etc. will all be harboring good bacteria, in different levels. Filter pads/bags and gravel will harbor the most I would think.
You do run the risk of transferring any diseases or parasites from an old tank to the brand new tank anytime you do that though.
