PastelMoose wrote:So, long story short no details, how do you register a service dog for something such as a psychological or emotional disorder? I read up on it and quite a few things said that you have to be prescribed by a doctor, and have medication being given to you for it to work...
The thing is, what i've got, it's not clinical, so i'm not being prescribed medication for it, if there is any at all. But it's still bad enough that i'd need a service dog or something (there is another name for it but i've forgotton it).
Any ideas? Thanks.

As someone who suffers from several mental illnesses, is on 3 medications, sees 3 counsellors, would greatly benefit from a PSD like you are describing, and lives in the same province as you, I'm here to tell you you can't do it. PSD aren't recognized in BC, the only form of them recognized are PTSD dogs for veterans only (again, as someone who suffers from PTSD, I'm telling you, you can't get one). In BC you can't just "register" your dog as a service dog. You need to qualify for and apply for a service dog from an ADI approved organization that they choose and train for you. Even if you didn't live in BC you can't just "register" your dog as a service dog. The dog needs to be trained to do several tasks for you that you wouldn't be able to do for yourself. Trust me, I've done the research, since a dog for my PTSD and panic attacks would be so much better than living the miserable existence I currently have.

Sorry for the late reply! If he's super comfortable with the crate with you around I'd just skip right to step 3 or maaaaybe 4.

Seriously thinking of moving there. I've always wanted to live somewhere with some seasons, seeing as Cali has none. But I don't want to deal with the extremes on the East Coast (I love snow but not prepared for what the East coast deals with), plus it's just so far.
Anyways, the reason I'm posting this in a dog thread... This town is just so awesome for dogs. I just know Rylee and especially Koda would LOVE it. They have this annual pooch plunge every summer, where everyone in the town can bring their dogs to the local pool/water park, to meet other dogs and cool off. I just think that's so neat. They also have tons of bike trails, hiking trails and parks... One dog park in particular has a nice sized lake in the middle for dog-use onlyWhile researching the place has even been dubbed as the "dog town" by some because it seems everyone there owns one.

It seems pretty awesome for people too of course - lots of stores, amenities and activities to do... It just sounds like a dream town for a dog-obsessed and outdoorsy type like me. Where I live now, I've just never gotten to experience much with my dogs and it sucks... Aside from a few trips to the beach.
