steampoweredgiraffe: Thanks for the plan! The general notes is what my mentor gave me when she was teaching me how to crate train. I drill into my parents' heads the "don't respond when he's making noise in the crate" point. My mom is easy to guilt with cute eyes and a whine.

I haven't tried meals in his crate before, he does get a Kong lined with the highest value treat he can get (no fat cream cheese) when in his crate so he stays occupied. I tried the trick with freezing spreadable treats so they last longer but he didn't seem interested.

Would you recommend going back to basics entirely (like steps 1-3) for a dog that's comfortable in the crate when you're present but gets anxious when you leave? Or start where the dog is already comfortable and work up from there?

Hello everyone!

Me and my other half want to bring a puppy into the family in the future but are a bit unsure what to get. We want a medium to large breed because we don't want a small dog. We also love German shepherds and Border collies along with Huskies but we aren't sure which one to have. I have been brought up with dogs and so has he. I am also doing an animal management course so I know the basics about high driven dogs etc like these are.

Any recommendations on any breeds like them? Anything odd I should consider with these breeds that I might not of thought of?

id narrow down what you really want in your next dog factoring in temperment, bidability, intelligence, prey drive, and make a list of huge NOs you wouldnt want to deal with like stranger aggression, prey aggression, dog on dog aggression, same sex aggression.. etc. The three dog beeeds youre interested in have very different temperments.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Yes I think when it comes closer to the time, I shall do this. I have noticed they are very different dogs but each seem to spark interest for us. I want a dog I can train. Also what do people say about cross breeds? I have considered getting a cross breed. They are very unique.

I only support crossbreeding if they're bred for working (as in the parents are actual working dogs and the puppies are destined to work) and the parents/family have been health tested. Otherwise, if you want a cross breed, go to a shelter.

Yea, I agree shelters are great for cross breeds. Although there are always cross breeds for sale out of shelters too which I would more than happily buy if I found the right one.

.... I wouldn't exactly consider that agreeing with me. Considering that I would never support a breeder crossbreeding dogs for any reason other then work and with health testing. I regret having gotten our last dog from a BYB and I refuse to do so again, no matter what cross.

I agree with this statement. 'Mutts' if you will, rarely find homes as easily as purebred/working dogs. Please don't encourage people breeding random dogs to make money off them, if you really want a crossbreed, think of giving one thats had a rough life a loving home.

So, long story short no details, how do you register a service dog for something such as a psychological or emotional disorder? I read up on it and quite a few things said that you have to be prescribed by a doctor, and have medication being given to you for it to work...
The thing is, what i've got, it's not clinical, so i'm not being prescribed medication for it, if there is any at all. But it's still bad enough that i'd need a service dog or something (there is another name for it but i've forgotton it).
Any ideas? Thanks.
