Who cares? If I put Creed in a cape for service dog work, it doesn't benefit him. Neither does when I buy a fancy collar instead of the plain rolled leather one he has now. As long as it doesn't hurt or harm the dog, does it really matter if it benefits or not?

One could argue that it doesn't benefit them to learn how to sit pretty, roll over, or play dead. So? As long as the dog isn't traumatized, is taught to enjoy the interaction it's all fun and games. It gets them used to having something put on them, for when they may really need it (like a bandage, harness, collar, etc), it can increase the positive experiences they have with people, not to mention a fun time with their owners. That all sounds that a good benefit to the dog to me.

Chloe was already used to being dressed up when I got her, so when I had to put something on her to keep her from scratching herself till she bleed, and allowing the old scratches to heal, it wasn't something new and traumatic for her.

Sara- that's another of Princess's problems! She goes to the end of her leash and starts making these snorting pig noises at other dogs (she's just excited, and it's getting better recently! I'll have to get a video of her tonight at the pet store if we go.

I really don't understand why anyone would give a flying flip what people put on their dogs. It's not hurting them, so why the heck should you care? Yeah, personally I wouldn't go far past putting a jacket/sweater on most dogs, but that's just me. I just don't particularly like the way my dogs look in random clothing outside of sweaters. But I don't give a crap what people put on their dogs, it's their dogs, if it doesn't hurt or hinder the dog's movement, what does it matter??

QUESTION: Do you think it's cruel or cute to dress up dogs? Do you dress up your dogs?

Personally, I think the only time it's acceptable to dress up a dog is if they are, for example, a Greyhound, or just a dog with a very short or hairless coat in general, and are going to be out in cold weather. Then, I suppose it's fine to have them them wear a sweater or a coat.

Okay. Apparently I am cruel, because I
dress up my American Staffordshire Terrier
in the silliest outfits. Why? Because people
actually PET HIM when he's dressed in
costume. If he's naked? People run the other
way because of the 'demon pit bull'.
All of my dogs wear shirts, jackets, costumes,
etc for different reasons. Lola gets crabby
when she's cold, and she'll pick fights.
Barnabas gets human attention when he
doesn't look like a 'pit bull'. Penny Jane
just enjoys being dressed up. She'll sit by
the dresser until I put her pajamas on,
then immediately pass out in comfort xD
Goldy wears an xl tee shirt because she
scratches at her bumps if I don't put one
on her. Millie wears one because she's
a diva and she gets cold. Lelu is a short
haired Greyhound mix, and she freezes
her butt off if she isn't wearing something.

So, excuse me for dressing up my dogs.
I must be so cruel for paying #AAAAAA0 per
pair of hand made pajamas, made to fit.
I must hate my Staffordshire Terrier, because
I buy him super hero outfits so people won't
run away. I must be such a horrible owner
for making sure my dogs don't freeze their
butts off during the winter. I won't apologize
for being a 'cruel owner' though, because my
dogs are dang loved and not to toot my own
horn but if I was a dog I'd want to be owned
by me.

.moz. wrote:I really don't agree with putting a sweater on your dog, or even dressing it up. It's not a person, it's an animal.

So, you'd rather my single coated short
haired dog be cold than wear a sweater?
It's not like I'm piercing her ears, or
making her wear high-heeled shoes.
I'm assuming you don't own a short haired
dog? Because, you'd know just how quickly
they get cold, and when my Lola gets cold
she snaps at other dogs. She hates being
cold, and as a person with Raynaud's
Disease, I completely understand why she
acts the way she does when her core body
temp goes down.

What is the weirdest object/food/etc that your dog has ever eaten?

Under the normal food category, tripe.
Not normal, Goldy just ate my ex-friend's
sock, talk about ironic.

@Joe Kerr, hows those baths going with your big boy, is he still afraid of the tub? <3
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth

@Cardi
Better, but unfortunately
his new medicated shampoo
makes his feet sting {He has
sores from chewing obsessively}
so he now associates the bath
with pain :( And I have to bathe
him twice a week. He doesn't
flatten himself in the tub anymore,
but he shakes and his tail is tucked.
We have 'parties' in the bathroom
everyday, where he gets massively
praised and treats shoveled in his
mouth, but it's not helping much
because of how much his shampoo
hurts ;A;

Ow! What shampoo are you using? Do you think you could find one thats less irritating? Coconut oil! ;) Keep up the hard work, though, it'll pay off! Maybe smear peanutbutter on the wall while you bathe so he had something to do?
