Yeah. I sometimes put a bow in my Morkie's (Yorkie/Maltese mix) hair, but that's the closest I get to dressing her up. If she seems bothered by it or trying to pull it out, I take it off. >.<

My pups are dressing up for Halloween, Chewie will likely be dyed purple (only on his white fur) and then he will wear his red devil cape that he wears every Halloween. (The cape was once part of a devil costume when I was like 9)

Princess is going to get a actual costume from the pet store, we just haven't found one that she likes yet! (She didn't like Miss Piggy since it went over her head, so we will have to go try again!)

So yeah I find it cute for some situations. Halloween or if your going some where special. Every day? No. Unless it needs a sweater or something. Last winter Gracie wore a sweater all winter because otherwise she shook like a leaf.

Show-type and field-type Goldens seem to vary in coat type and a few other factors, and it seems like not many working Golden breeders do much, if any, conformation showing?

It depends on the breed and breeder! I didn't even look for confo titles with Creed's parents (but both do have confo titles), but for something like a Vizsla or borzoi I would look for both confo and hunt tests. I think it really depends on what breed, because some breeds have a HUGE divide between working and show, and others not so much.

He straight up punched me in the eye socket. I was rolling around making noises somewhere between laughing and crying cause I know from where my husband was sitting it had to have looked hilarious as hell.

My face 0 Creed 1000000

I have had multiple bruised cheeks and chins, one bloody nose, a black eye, and several lip sores from Creed's big feet or noggin banging right into my face. Better than Titan, though, who's tail made my teeth pierce my lip all the way to the outside.

Do I think it's cruel to dress dogs up? Nah.

Keep in mind that 'scary' looking dogs often get more attention when they're wearing a piece of clothing versus when they're not because it suddenly makes them cuter (I've experience this first hand). Extreme Pieds (like white boxers), double merles and albinos get sunburns and are more prone to skin cancer, as do hairless dogs. So instead of spending a fortune on dog sunscreen, the owner puts a shirt on them and only put sunscreen on the exposed spots. Dogs lacking pigment in their eyes (double merles, albinos, some extreme pieds) find the sunlight too harsh and doggles help. Dogs who regularly are taken running on concrete or go hiking can shred up their paws. Dogs who live in hot places can burn their paws. Dogs who live in places where it snows/ice ends up on the ground can get chemical burns on their paws from the rock salt. All of those should be wearing booties. Single coated dogs in severely cold places benefit from snow suits. AND MIGHT I MENTION, long haired single coated dogs are just as intolerant of the cold as short, single coats. It offers no more protection from the cold and wet then your hair. Some dogs have a general distaste for getting wet and wearing rain coats allows them to go out without them protesting... as much.

All of that aside, if I like dressing up my dog and my dog likes it, who are you to say otherwise? Even if I'm just doing it to make the dog look 'cute'. Dogs really don't care what they look like.

QUESTION: Do you think it's cruel or cute to dress up dogs? Do you dress up your dogs?

Personally, I think the only time it's acceptable to dress up a dog is if they are, for example, a Greyhound, or just a dog with a very short or hairless coat in general, and are going to be out in cold weather. Then, I suppose it's fine to have them them wear a sweater or a coat.

I have no problem with people dressing up their dog whether or not it's for a purpose or just to be cute. It's not cruel, as dogs can be trained to tolerate clothing just as they are trained to tolerate a collar and/or harness. Dressing a dog up unless you fail to desensitize it or keep the dog too warm does no harm to the dog. Dogs don't have a sense of dignity like humans. They're not going to get made fun of by other dogs and they don't care what strangers think of them. Dressing up a dog can be an activity that dogs learn to enjoy. Wearing clothes is just another trick they can learn to perform to earn them rewards.

You shouldn't be surprised that there are people who don't like the implication that they're cruel for dressing up their dogs. Would you like it if someone thought it was cruel to do something that you consider an everyday thing, with your own dogs?

Creed (and Skoll) gets dressed up because he sucks at staying warm. Or he might get dressed up because I think he looks funny in something ;) Or maybe he'll wear a "girly" collar because I think it looks cute on him. Dogs don't really care what they wear, what color it is, or what it looks like. People are the ones who make judgements about that sort of stuff.

If dogs could feel embarrassed by photos, my pups would be red faced today! We had some peanut butter fun and I got some embarrassing pictures lol

I linked you to the album since there are way to many pictures to upload here. There are nearly 60 in Princess's album and about 30 in Chews. But they are hilarious so worth the time to go look!

I guess I don't see how it matters and I don't view it as any different that the dog wearing 'gear'. Padded harnesses used for a varity of things, backpacks, lifejackets, armored vests for hog hunting, armored collars.. etc etc. Whether I put a frilly pink pockadot lacy corset on my dog or a armored vest.. Its still SOMETHING on the dog and the dog doesn't know any different. I personally have a coat, lifejacket, backpack, and harness for walking and harness for pulling for the dogs.. as well as a costume or two floating around here and the dogs treat each object exactly the same. I view it in the same vein as wearing snazzy collars or snazzy harnesses used as glam.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe
